Hope this isnt too off the mark for General Discussion, just read a book recently about The London Nailbomber David Copeland who as we all know planted 3 home-made bombs in London in 1999 - one of those being left in Hanbury Street off Brick Lane. I dont know how long you guys have been here but I just wondered what the thoughts were (other than the expected) when you heard about the explosion in the infamous street?

Hi Adam,
I wasn't a Casebook poster at the time, but I remember it well. Apparently the bomb was left in Hanbury Street but a concerned passerby picked it up and put it in the boot of his car, which was parked in Brick Lane near the junction with Chicksand Street. That's where it went off. The local Bengali businesses were ready for something, but thought it was going to come from anti-fascist group Combat 18.
Fortunately there were few injuries, but unfortunately, Copeland was at large long enough to bomb the Admiral Duncan pub in Soho, with more devastating consequences.Last edited by John Bennett; 08-23-2009, 06:33 PM.
