  • Pictures of 29 Hanbury Street in 1888

    Hey all,

does anyone know where I can find some pictures of the front of 29 Hanbury Street (in fact as many photos as possible) that were taken in or around 1888?
All the pics i've found on this site have been taken after the murders took place and I'm trying to replicate how the house looked like at the time.

I was wondering if anyone had pictures that were uploaded to the forums that i just haven't found or any luck anywhere else.
    Thanks

The only pictures of the location at the time of the murders are illustrations from magazines. Over the years some fantastic photo's have been taken, some of which are available on this site, and there are some great shots from "The Whitby Collection" in Jack the Ripper's London Then and Now by Robert Clack and Philip Hutchinson.
    Regards Mike

I think you can get some still pictures from The London Nobody Knows (1967) which is now available on DVD. There is a segment of the film that is shot in Hanbury Street in 1967, including the murder scene in the back yard. To obtain pictures of the crime scene in 1888 you'd have to check with the City Engineer for the East End and see what he has in his collection.
