Hi everyone
My first post after lurking for months and I'm looking for help, please.
I know the murder of Percy Knight Searle has been referred to on these boards - he was the 8 year-old boy killed in Havant, Hampshire, on 26 Nov 1888.
An 11 year-old boy, Robert Husband, was tried and acquitted. His defence counsel made a big issue of a possible Jack connection, in view of the letter with the Portsmouth postmark purporting to have been sent by Jack.
A brief quote in The Times of 27 Nov 1888 refers to '...some writing on a shutter in Hanover Street, Portsmouth...giving some colour to this supposition'.
Does anyone know anything about this alleged writing, please, particularly what the actual words were? I seem to have drawn a blank researching the national and local press.
