I vote Piggott.
Because he fled just after the murder and walked to Gravesend.
Because he was found with blood on his boots, an injured hand, and blood was also found on his clothes (that he left at the fish shop).
So, had the murders ceased, Piggott could have easily misled me.

I have seen the photos, Dave, but he was a lot thinner in 1888 as his wife said he wasn`t eating properly since his depression.
Unfortunately, Isenschmid`s Doctor would not let him attend a police line-up for Mrs Fiddymont.

Both of them were mad.
Both of them are contemporary suspects.
And none of them was the WM...!!?

Hello DVV.
"Had the Ripper murders ceased after Annie Chapman's . . . "
What an interesting thought!
Actually, poor JI is summarily dismissed by (eg, Sugden) because he was incarcerated whilst C3-C5 were committed.
Then there is the matter of distance--Mitford road Holloway to Whitechapel is about 5 1/2 miles.
But his story is fascinating. He was obviously suffering from severe mental illness. He seemed to be completely dissociated.
Notice that he left in the mornings at 1:00 AM to collect sheep heads and kidneys.
Dissociated? Sheep heads and kidneys? Sounds almost like the story of Ajax who, in a dissociated state, killed a lot of people thinking they were sheep.
Of course, he WAS in jail whilst C3-C5 were killed.
The best.

Hi Arch,
It's gonna be a while. Im halfway through it and it's already running long. I feel for Don Souden who might get stuck with the task of editing it. But it's coming along alright. It will exonerate (to my satisfaction, at least) Michael Kidney for the Stride murder and will then look at about 8 different individuals for complicity.
The point of the essay is that it does NOT just come down to Jack or Kidney. I personally feel there's no way Kidney killed Stride and that Jack must remain the most likely candidate, but there are other viable suspects, some of whom have never been looked at and other well known people, such as Albert Bachert, who have never been put under the microscope.
The second part of the essay will be all about Le Grand, who feel is just behind Jack as the most likely person to have killed Stride.
Yours truly,
Tom Wescott
