  • Blotchy Face

    why was he in that room while Mary Kelly was singing for 90 mins, this does not seem like the Ripper's tactics at all, it looks like a variation in his M.O... what was he doing in there?

    a few theories are :- maybe he asked her to sing, so he could sit there staring at her, like a Voyeur, maybe her singing transfixed him in some kind of drink induced twisted trance.

    Blotchy Face was obviously a fairly calm/ chilled out character ( to remain in that room for so long)

    Mary was very drunk yes and thus unable to detect his evil ( that is if he's the killer....inside her room i mean ) plus, i'm surprised she fell ``foul`` of him out in the streets too, because she was supposed to be quite sensible/ relatively smart..... i think we can blame all this on heavy drinking.

    was Kelly dancing too while singing? was Kelly putting on a type of ``poll dance`` to excite Blotchy face... did he ask her to do that.... was he sitting there perving at her for 90 mins, was she dancing near naked like ``Cleopatra`` in front of Antony..... but surely she was singing the wrong type of song for that!

    was he killing time, waiting for 4am, it just feels odd for her to be singing so long while he's in there too.... was he still in there?

    Hi Malcolm X,

    If JtR sat in Room 13 listening to MJK singing the Victorian equivalent of "My Way" for ninety minutes, he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Murder would have been a mercy to all the inhabitants of Millers Court.

    Regards,

    Simon

      I don't think you can determine from Mary Ann Cox's inquest testimony that he was in there for 90 minutes:

      "On Thursday night, at 11.45, I last saw the deceased. There was a short, stout man, shabbily dressed, with her, and he had a pot of ale in his hand. He had a round black-billycock hat on. He had a blotchy face, and a full carroty moustache. The chin was bare. I followed them up into the court, and said, 'Good night, Mary.' She never turned round, and he banged the door. He had nothing but a quart can of beer in his hand. She said, 'Good night. I'm going to have a song.' Then the door was shut, and she sang, 'The violet I plucked from my mother's grave.' I remained a quarter of an hour in my room. She was singing all the time. I went out, returned about one o'clock, and she was singing then." Morning Advertiser (London), 13 November 1888

        Facts;
        1- Blotchy was seen going into MJK's room at about 11:45, but not seen coming out.

        2- Mary Ann Cox does not testify that she sees Blotchy at ABOUT 1AM only that MJK is still singing.

        3-Elizabeth Prater also testifys that she had been out and upon returning at 1AM, stood at the bottom of Miller's Court for about thirty minutes during which time she spoke to John McCarthy; apart from that, she saw nobody pass up the court. she does not make mention of hearing MJK singing and specificly states that she saw noone else. (Cox coming home at 1AM)

        4-This conflicts with Mary Cox's story but an earlier arrival time, say 15 minutes, for Mrs cox could explain this away. If MJK has finished with blotchy, turned him out and stopped singing by between 12:50 and 1 AM then the storys jiv.

        5- both Elizabeth Prater and Sarah Lewis claimed to have heard cries of 'murder' Around 4 AM.

        6-The police attributed the murder to Jack the Ripper due to the violence and MO of the murder.

        7-Prostitutes usually turn more than one trick in a night.

        Assumtions based on the above facts;
        1-Blotchy was probably gone from MJK's room by 1 AM.
        2-MJK went looking for another John sometime after 1:30AM.
        3-MJK had another customer in her room around 4AM.
        4-The man in her room at 4AM killed her and Jack was blamed.

        Also interesting here is
        1-John McCarthy's nickname was Jack.
        2-he was at the scene of the crime at 1:30 that night.
        3-he as the landlord would have known that Barnett was moved out
        4-he would aslo know that MJK was working as a prostitute.
        Did John McCarthy take advantage of the Ripper hysteria to kill MJK?
        Was he actually the Ripper?
        Or was it all just coincidence.

        'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - beer in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride!'
