of course you don't have to do anything but you started this thread by asking members of this forum like myself what our feelings and reactions where on the movie. i did this and you responded by telling me that my views where "clear exaggeration and utter nonesense" without giving examples which, kind of goes against what forums like these are are all about surely? i maybe wrong about this but, just saying someone opinion is nonsense without saying why doesn't seem to me to be much more than a conversational dead end

I think the point here is that your comment Ken, could be taken as inflammatory and disparaging to those 'enthusiasts' who take Ripperology seriously. It does seem a bit pointless - I mean, who else do you expect to find in a forum dedicated to JTR but people who are interested? Am I missing something?

And anyway, everyone knows that Catherine Eddowes (proper nouns, capital letters..)had a brass coloured shawl with knobs on...don't they?

firstly, if anyone found my comments inflammatory or disparaging i apologize.
i was counting myself as an 'enthusiast' otherwise i wouldn't be here, my point put simply was that it would be impossible to film these events factually because we do not have all the facts. i will stand by my comment about blanket 'what you've just is rubbish' type responses as being pointless.
again sorry for any offense caused as this was not my intension

Exaggerated 'nonesense' was the main opinion, no simply 'nonesense'.

It is, f you understand English, all the explanation one needed to understand what I was getting at.

An apology that isn't meant is not an apology.....but i'll accept anyway in the name of peace. Many thanks!

But just the joking about other absurd conspiracy theories reminds me how gullible people are. When I shake my head in disbelief at those who think it is perfectly believable that the British government kept mopping up after the mad Prince Eddy, I forget the other supposed plots from the highest levels of government, such as the Kennedy assassination and 9/11. Still, I suppose, with all the various suspects still being debated, no one could satisfy everyone. I'd have some "blend in the crowd" forgettable nobody with a fascination for visera creeping around to carve up unpleasant women and die unnoticed. Everyone else would scream, "Where's Tumblety/Stephenson/Maybrick/Kaiser Wilhelm II?" All I ask it that there are no members of the Royal Family, no Freemasons, and no use of Mary Kelly as a love interest.
                      Hi Pippin Joan,

Swap "unpleasant" for "unfornunate" and you've got my vote.

Firstly, Ken, don't worry about it - it was just a bit heavy handed, is all! As for an 'accurate' portrayal of the Ripper Mania of the late 1880's, doesn't that depend to some extent on who you believe in the first place? You could put in all the facts, so far as they are known, but you'd still need a story, so you'd have to hypothesise about Jack himself.
You could have JTR as a forgettable nobody, with all the other famous suspects thrown in as notable red herrings! On the other hand, I think he wanted to be noticed, so maybe you'd have Mr Brag-a-Lot (you know the type) who goes down the pub and says how he's going to be famous one day. He dies because everyone else gets so sick of him going on about how great he is they just have to throw him in the Thames!

I agree about Mary Kelly being a love interest - Oh No! Not Again! I personally doubt it - I mean, she can't have had that many charms, can she? Even George Hutchinson wasn't up for giving her sixpence for a cup of tea and a bag of chips. But - you could have her as an Eliza Doolittle type character, with Tumblety taking her under his wing (Quack!) and teaching her how to speak Yank and sing the latest U.S. hits. Obviously, she'd need to practice at night, as being a working girl, she'd be too busy in the day. Hey! I think this could work! One more thing - Would the Maybrick Diary be in it?

                              Hi Nothing to see,

Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it.

p.s. Whatever you do, I Implore you, do not go public with the whole Princess Di/Flight 19/Ripper connection thing. Not only would your life be in grave danger from MI5/6 and the French Secret Service (not to mention the Bolivian High Seas Fleet), but you could also potentially ruin Dan Brown's forthcoming bestseller "The Sickert Code" which covers this whole subject in enough depth to convince anyone flicking through an airport book stand!!!

Crystal! Thank you for the intelligent reply i suspected was out there somewhere. Of course you are right in that it all depends on who you favour as a suspect or which set of events you believe to be correct. Whatever is filmed someone will have a beef with some aspect of it which, to me, seems such a waste of energy. No one will be truly satisfied so just enjoy any interest which leads to the making of films on the subject and if the idea of a ripper film makes your blood boil write one of your own
