what happened to jack?
Hi all Im new to these boards but i've been interested in the Ripper case for years.
My maternal family was living in Whitechapel at the time of the murders so the area holds
added interest to me.
For me the key to understanding Jack and his crimes is to look at modern serial killers who have commited
similar crimes.
Its my opinion that we shouldn't be looking for Jack amongst the suicides of the time, murders of his ilk rarely commit suicide. I also don't believe that we should look for Jack in the lists of those commited to assylums, while a serial killer may seem insane due to his crimes they actually dont
present as "insane". Look at people like BTK, Arthur Shawcross, John Reginald Christy, Jeff Dahmler, John Wayne Gacy and Englands most recent killer of prostitues Steve Wright.
The families, work collegues and neighbours of all these men had no idea that they where killing men and women. Yes some serial killers are found to
be suffering from mental health problems, but as 1 in 10 people experience mental health problems it should be no surprise that 1 in 10 serial killers do to.
I believe that Jack grew better at covering his crimes, i think that the killing of Mary Jane Kelly shows this, after his experience with MJK i dont believe he would of had much enjoyment from hasty street killings. To me Elizabeth Jackson seems like a very likely victim, the killing and mutilations were in Jacks general "style" and i think that deviations and the disposal of the body only show the progession we should expect of Jack.
As to who jack was... Well modern forensic science can help us to narrow the field. Was he gay? Unlikely gay serial killers tend to kill men especially where the killings have a sexual element. Was he wealthy? Again unlikely as serial killers are more likely to kill people of their own social class eg; Ted Bundy an educated man killed collage girls, Arthur shawcross a less educated man killed prostitutes.
I think that part of the reason for this is accessability and part comfort, they felt more at ease and able to lure women they felt comfortable with, also the women would be more likey to feel at easy with a man that did not stand out in their enviroment.
Because of these factors i believe that Jack was known to the girls and i also believe that at some point he was involved in the investigation, wether he was one of the vigilaties that combed the streets looking for Jack or wether he was a "witness" i think he would of had some contact with the police or media of the time.
Well thats my 2 pennys worth!
