    Hi Suzi,
there are more odd things to come. The man Welté, aka Puff of Smoke, annouces on his website that he will soon complete a 3 volumes saga about vampires, and will also travel Europe on the trail of E Bathory.
Of whom we can expect an interview and some photos.

    Amitiés,
    David

The "Curse of Mitre Square" was an early attempt to explain the murders in an occult frame...

I have a newspaper report from 1888 which looks at the murders being carried out so that the human fat could be used for thieves candles, which in occultic tradition are used to knock out victims, whilst they are robbed.

This article predates Robert D'Onston Stephenson's suggestion that the human fat is used to make occultic candles.

PS PS. Another interesting idea might be to explore how Hollywood have interwoven Lees story with that of Abberline. Leaving us the mythology of the Psychic Detective hot on the trail of a ghostly killer.

To my memory, which is poor these days. Lees did offer his services at the time (dont think he was taken up) and did receive a mysterious pension from the crown.

I beleive most of the occult theories are of more modern invention, though I'm happy to stand corrected.

Yes, i think you should be careful about confusing the Occult and Spiritualism in Ripper context. They are very different stories.

Occult books tend to lean towards the idea that the Ripper murders were commited by someone involved in Satanic Ritual.

The involvement of Spiritualism in the mythology of the Ripper case is seeped in the mythology from early days.

Robert Lee's was supposed to have followed a man through the Streets to the home of a surgeon. He was arrested and put into an asylum.

As far as i am aware there is little, if any, credible source. The stories appearing in news papers sometime after the event. I believe Jennifer Pegg is a good source for stories and sources on Lees.

Mikes information on psychics is correct. I might also add in his book Tony Stockwell does a psychic reading with a decendant of Catherine Eddows.

1888 is a time when credible scientists still took spiritualism seriously and is very much part of the flavour of the period.

    All the best

    Pirate

PS if dealing with psychics avoid the 'M' word

    Hi Jibby Reznor,
one Philippe Welté has written a book about the case. He talked with Mary Kelly's ghost for more than 20 years. And has of course solved the case.
