Hi All
I have this article that I wish to share.
Forgive me if it has been seen before - I cannot seem to find any other reference to it.
It adds a little to the thoughts of Mr Brough regarding the use of bloodhounds to follow a "clean shoe" over stone/gravel etc. and contains a picture of "Barnaby-Champion" which I think must be THE Barnaby.
I believe one of the most likely explanations for the Ripper to have halted his killing during the month of October was that he was awaiting the outcome of the bloodhound trials. At the beginning of the indicated text Mr. Brough tells of the fallacies held in mind by the uninformed person regarding the powers of the hounds - The Ripper may well have been fearful of being torn limb from limb on his next excursion. Letters to the newspapers during October would have confirmed to him that the hounds were of little use in the streets of London.
