When some people say lee Allen was the only suspect, it's pure BS. Larry Kane was positively identified by the girl (Kathleen Johns?)with the baby. Another thread I saw recently, a guy I think his title was model maker said he was there with a friend at lake Berryessa and saw Larry Kane shortly before the 2 people were stabbed. Go to zodiakkiller.com larrys writing looks like a match to me. I think someone else may have killed Stine, the cabby. Have any of you seen that woman who recently came forward, (Debborah Perez?) says her father did some of the killing and she wrote the letter to Melvin Beli.

Of course that could still have been used by a copycat as inspiration, but I think it was fairly well established where the name "Son of Sam" came from- Sam Carr, who lived near David Berkowitz and whose dog Berkowitz claimed had barked orders to kill at him.
Yes, that is exactly what I was refering too. I did not know that it was found to be a mental patient. However still could have been a trigger for a copycat trying to be clever. I did not buy the dog story. I think Berkowitz made that story up

Brad,
I don't buy the dog story either, it's just something Berkowitz made up to make people think he was crazy (which he wasn't). That Sam Carr was his neighbor though, and that Berkowitz was associated with Carr's two sons John and Michael (literally the "Sons of Sam") is fairly well established. The book "The Ultimate Evil" by Maury Terry goes into great detail about how the Son of Sam was not just one man but a Satanic cult involving Berkowitz, the Carr brothers, and others, and that Berkowitz was indeed chosen to be the fall guy. The theory definitely has its critics but the book is very convincing, and Berkowitz has admitted to it in a televised prison interview with Terry.
Connections to Zodiac? Conspiracy theory being what it is, it wouldn't surprise me if someone could make that link.
