  • Is it possible?

Is it possible to buy (cheap) reproductions of newspapers from the Autumn of Terror containing the Jack The Ripper news reports?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I know that it is sometimes possible to obtain a reproduction of the newspaper of the day you were born but so far I haven't had any luck in trying to find a affordable reproduction of newspapers from 1888.

Does anyone have list of the newspapers that existed in the London area at the time of the murders? That might be a place to start.

You might try the Casebook Press Reports section, which not only lists the vast majority of newspapers available in London (and many from elsewhere), but also contains a huge number of transcripts of those articles that related to the Ripper case.
      Kind regards, Sam Flynn

Also always worth trying to get hold of the 1888 Punch- bound editions are fairly easy to get hold of- as today Punch gives a 'slant' on public opinion- Not always relevant though as many Dentist's Waiting Room readers will testify!!!!

I may need to clarify that I don't want them for reading but to frame them and hang on my wall in my study.

Where about's do you hail from Mutt and Saucy Jacky?

I visit my local studies, local heritage centre, and local archives, who all have microfilm copies of the Hull Newspaper reports from the period. These can be printed off and make lovely framed conversation pieces!

I also recall that every now and then certain newspaper carry "Facsimilie" copies of contempory reports, I have a lovely JTR one which is massive, and the text is crystal clear.

Sam Flynn is right to mention the world's largest online newspaper archive on the murders, held on this very site.

I am a bit of a newspaper obsessive and have files of press cuttings from the 1860's to the 1980's covering all aspects of the case.
            Regards Mike
