  • Jack's no. 1

It seems our boy has topped the most recent list of urban serial killers.

This guy at the University of Derby says that finding JtR nowadays would be a piece of cake. Oh yeah?

TGM - Thanks for the link to the article. Very frustrating but extremely interesting. I hope people really don't believe that the biggest differencet between detectives in the 1880's and now are a "flask of brandy".

In reading through this site, and the posts made by the obviously well read individuals that participate in this site, I get the distinct feeling that there is a general belief that the Whitechapel killer would more than likely be apprehended today. I'm not quite so optimistic. He could be, he might not be.

Forensic sciences might help. Usually they do not. In the 1980's the Baltimore City Police Department's Homicide detectives had a 70% clearance rate. Since then the wonder that is DNA evidence has been introduced. Now, it is about 44%. A lot of factors, both social and political contribute to this. it is an unfortunate trend that homicide clearance rates are dropping. New forensic sciences did not cause this. They help. However, their existance does not often close cases.

Who knows, maybe we would have been lucky and struck paydirt with a fingerprint, DNA, sketch artist, surveillance camera, or a polygraph, etc.

I wonder how wise it is to treat murderers like celebrities. Top ten lists?

          Ha HA

Its funny how ignorant some people can be. I find that article about finding the ripper to be truly amusing. The nicest word I could use to descrbe that man is confused. And about hair strand fibers, fingerprints, and so on these women were prostitutes who probally had countless hair strands, fingerprints, and maybe even semin specimens on them.
          Washington Irving:

"To a homeless man, who has no spot on this wide world which he can truly call his own, there is a momentary feeling of something like independence and territorial consequence, when, after a weary day's travel, he kicks off his boots, thrusts his feet into slippers, and stretches himself before an inn fire. Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. The arm chair in his throne; the poker his sceptre, and the little parlour of some twelve feet square, his undisputed empire. "

What does "urban" have to do with anything? Who cares! What about a killer like Zodiac who killed some in town and some outside? Do you seriously think that Joel Rifkin would outrank BTK, Green River, Christie or Jack the Stripper? I think this guy needs to study some more.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.
