I just came across this site. It has some fine old photos of British soldiers, relevant to our era of interest. I don't think it has been posted here. If so, sorry to be redundant. The picture of Warren, with which we are familiar, is also here. Perhaps this will give us an idea of what the Victorians meant when they spoke of a "military appearance."
