socialists jews, slumlords and a pub

I'm looking for a pub, that I thought was the Sugar Loaf Pub (Hanbury Street), but I'm having doubts I remember correctly.

The pub is owned by a slumlord, friend with McCarthy. (Cooney? Smith?)
A lot of the patrons were members of the International Worker's Educational Club (Berner Street)

Anyone knows if it is indeed the Sugar Loaf? looking on the London Pub database, none of the owners name ring a bell.

If it's not, do you remember the name, and the location?

Thanks a bunch. Hope you're all well.
(Don't come often, too deep into writing. Third version of the novel, it's the right one.)

      Second one, yes.

Now, why do I think I read somewhere that the pub was owned by a slumlord who would often have a drink there with McCarthy?

Maybe Cooney used front people, for his own reasons.

                Yeah. Maybe.
I wonder how they found him, then.

                Anyway, thanks Robert.

I have researched the Cooneys and the Marie Lloyd connection. And have written an article about it. Tom Wescott is looking at it at the moment, its too long to go on a forum.

Yes! I think Tom mentioned something about it in his Bank Holiday Murder book. Thanks. I will look at it again.

I have done the Cooney genealogy and sorted the Marie Lloyd connection. At the moment I am deciding where it to publish it. I want to keep it as a complete article rather than dribs and drabs of info.
