If you could see a photo of any character from the Ripper case (victim, suspect, witness, policeman, etc.), who would you want it to be?
    Squibby. Yes- definitely Squibby.

Why Squibby, for gawd's sake, and not Billy Maher or Scabby?

Because Squibby was an infamous hell raiser, a juvenile delinquent, a regular pocket Hercules who was at the time a veritable bane to the existence of the Victorian police.

but he got chased by a mob, accused of being Jack the Ripper, until the police saved him.

ever since he and the police were good friends.

so.. if anything is good to come of this ripper thing, is that Squibby got reformed and became a model citizen.

I guess I'd ask for a color photo of Aaron Kosminsky. To see if he had a carroty mustache or a splotchy face.

Anything would be better than that Snidely Whiplash illustration.

I was watching Mudrer by Decree yesterday with a friend. I live in Devon now but lived in London until I was 18. My friend has lived in Devon since birth.
Mudrer by Decree was released in 1979. There's a website page which shows where it was filmed.

The "Holmes searches for Mary" (see above linked page) location was Southwark. As I was watching the film I was reminded that in 1979 I was in my early teens and my grandfather and me would go to Petticoat Lane every Sunday and if there was time we'd explore a bit. We lived in West London (Acton). Some of the areas we'd explore, as well as parts of West London, looked just like the Southwark location from the film. For some areas it looked like there had been no development since before the war.
I had been introduced to JTR via Stephen King's book 2 or 3 years prior. As a lot of those buildings were from Victorian and Edwardian era it wasn't too hard to imagine what it was like at the time of JTR. This was also before the outsides of buildings were cleaned, bar the windows.
I think of all the Ripper films, in some shots Mudrer by Decree best captures how I imagine the area looked at night from all the literature I've read on the subject. As in the image below. No idea where the image scene was actually filmed. Could be some studio backlot!

                  These are not clues, Fred.
It is not yarn leading us to the dark heart of this place.
They are half-glimpsed imaginings, tangle of shadows.
And you and I floundering at them in the ever vainer hope that we might corral them into meaning when we will not.
                  We will not.

William Holt in his various disguises, but especially with his face blackened using burnt cork two days after the Kelly murder. I'd also love to see footage of the crowd chasing him to lynch him.

Failing that, a photo of the GSG.

Even including MJK I think I'd choose Abberline.

A photo of Charles Lechmere, taken in the first days of october 1888, with good portrait qualitites and showing us whether one of his hands was bandaged at that stage.

                              Aaron Kosminsky or Jacob Levy.

                                Hi Fisherman,

I probably missed it earlier but what would his bandaged hand prove?

                                Thanks,
