It’s only a very minor point but is there any way of turning off notifications for a thread that I started? I’m thinking that it’s not possible but I thought I’d put the question.

Yes. You go to your profile. You click on the button marked "Edit Settings" then you edit your Notifications. You either get Notifications or you don't, you can't select out "this thread, versus this thread". You can however choose to NOT get emails, and only get message center notifications.

I've edited my above post slightly because I realized you might be asking about turning off notices for one thread and only one. That's not possible.
