  • Password Data Leak?

Received a notification on my iPhone that my password for this site has appeared in a data leak.

I wanted to give everyone else a heads-up in case their accounts have also been compromised. I would suggest updating your password just to be on the safe side.

Cheers Harry, how do you go about updating your password?

You mean the iPhone that alerted me to the data breach?

The data leak has nothing to do with Apple. The passwords have been stolen by a third party.

          User Settings > Account

You should find the option to change password there.

What this means is that your password appears on a list of leaked passwords on the net. It does not mean it's specific to this site. If you use the password DonkeyDoug3 and somewhere there's a password leak where DonkeyDoug3 has appeared, then your password is on that list. It does not mean it is for this site, or it is specifically a leak of your data. Apple's new feature is stupid and generically broad and overly alarmist in its lack of specificity or purpose.

Mine’s been listed too. As has my Amazon password. It’s also flagged up that I have a couple of duplicated passwords. I might change the Amazon one as cash is involved? Bloody technology!

I recommend using a password manager btw. I'm very happy with Keepass.

I only use it on windows and not sure of it's compatibility elsewhere.

I know there's various means for authentication apart from passwords, but password and Keepass work very well for me.

KeePass is a free open source password manager. Passwords can be stored in an encrypted database, which can be unlocked with one master key.

                        Other password managers are available...
