We tend to get a lot of Report Posts because people call them liars. Generally speaking, posters do not directly call other posters liars, they say things like "You're being untruthful/dishonest/etc.
There is a difference between someone being wrong and someone lying. If you imply someone is lying, you had better be prepared to SHOW evidence that they are lying or it will be considered a personal attack. To prove someone is lying, you must be able to prove that they deliberately, with intentional disregard for the truth, stated something that was inaccurate and they KNEW it was inaccurate when they posted it. If you cannot prove someone is deliberately posting inaccurate information, don't say they are lying.
Once again: BEING WRONG is not the same thing as being untruthful.
Poster A: It is a definitive fact that Suspect A could not have engaged in Activity B because of Reason C.
Poster B: You claim that Suspect A is incapable of doing Activity B because of Reason D.
Poster A: You are lying, I never said that and your your untruthfulness is telling.
Poster A had better be able to prove definitively that Poster B LIED (not just misunderstood, or misstated or misremembered) but straight up lied or it will be considered a personal attack.
And a third time for the people in the back: There is a difference between someone being WRONG and deliberately lying. Casting aspersions on someone's character and honesty IS a personal attack. Being WRONG (in your opinion) is not the same thing as being untruthful. Do NOT state/imply that someone is lying unless you have the means to back up that statement and have backed it up, in the post where you level the accusation.
Updated language will be added to the Personal Attacks part of the rules.
In addition, for the next week, due to both admin and moderator having life circumstances that are drawing their attention at this time, please note that ALL Report Posts, all major issues that need to be resolved, will result in the thread being shut until I can get around to dealing with it. Which might be days.
