That is a picture of Lizzie Williams (Mary Elizabeth) wife of Sir John Williams

I think you are mistaken in thinking even “Antonia Alexander” would think she was Mary Kelly.

Please read the above link, don’t waste your time with this “theory” (and I use that word loosely

Fraud is defined in British Law as a person making a false representation dishonestly, knowing that it was or might be true or misleading and with intent to make a gain for himself or another or to cause loss to another or to expose another to risk of loss.

At the very least I would suggest that anyone who purchased the book contacts the publisher for a refund.

                Fraud

One small problem with the claims of fraud is that to the best of my knowledge this work was always described as a novel.

So this specific example is clearly not our Mary Kelly.

When shown a portrait, the first thing we always want to do is to compare it with the newspaper portrayals and the death scene. And then we get excited when they are similar. Of course they will be. If someone is going to put the effort into creating a hoax, they will find an old picture of someone who resembles the newspaper portrayal. To me, to a extent at least, the closer the resemblance, the less likely it is to be Mary.

Hi Barnaby, the problem with the whole ripper thing is that so many people want to put a name to the killer that they will buy and listen to anything put in front of them and I'm sure a lot (but not all) authors feed on this fact.

While I can see a resemblance, Ms. Hughes seems much slimmer. Hmm.

But, thank you for clearing that up?

I'm REALLY starting to not like this Antonia Alexander woman -___-
                      Hi Aurora,

Yes, I am sure. The photograph you posted at the start of this thread is the EXACT SAME PHOTOGRAPH as the one in the book I mentioned and it states quite categorically that the photo is of Williams' wife. The heading to the right of the photograph says 'John Williams's wife, Mary Elisabeth Ann Hughes, 'Lizzie', when young. The photographs of her taken during their marriage show a marked physical decline'.

I would willingly post the photo if I only knew how too. I know how to scan the photo into the computer but I don't know how to post it on Casebook. I would be really grateful if you could let me know how to do it! Thanks.

I'm now going to check out Sally's and Jenni's 'pointers'. I think I'll also check out Amazon to see if the book is shown there and if there are any 'reviews'!

                      Take care,
                      Carol

Once you've scanned the photo and have the file, just go to any number of image upload sites. imgur.com is a popular one. Then use this button to display it on here.

                          Hi Harry,
Many thanks. I'll see if I can manage it after tea!

Well done Carol - you're quite right. But didn't someone recently point out that Antonia Alexander is one of Tony Williams's pseudonyms? In which case not very surprising.
