  • No, BS Man was just some bloke staggering home from the pub who gave Stride a whack and kept walking. I'm in the process of formulating a theory that the actual murderer was Diemschutz who objected, for some as yet unknown reason, to Stride feeding his horse with grapes and breath fresheners.

      • Woolf Wess

        Hello Lynn

        According to this site:-

        http://libcom.org/history/wess-woolf

William Wess had no connection with the Tobacco industry until the beginning of the 20th Century, when he took up a position as a book-keeper.

Tongs in plenty of other fires though!

        All the best

        Dave

        • Oh god somebody's mentioned the grapes in front of Mr Westcott...does this mean we all have to stand in a tea chest and sing "Jerusalem"?

          All the best

A connection to tobacco was present at the time Dave, some of the cottagers were cigarette makers, and we know about Goldstein.

            Cheers

When did Tom's Dad get involved in this?

                Hello Dave. Thanks.

"perhaps he'd dropped off a consignment of full packets somewhere local and was returning home with empties..."

                Or the club?

The date? Was that 1894? Wess went into tobacco around 1903. Who encouraged him to get out of printing?

                Cheers.

Hello Stephen. Giving cachous to a horse? The horse killed Liz. (Ever taste one of those nasty things?)

                  Cheers.

A good thought, Mike. That's a strong possibility to factor into my theory.

                    All the best.

What do we know about Goldstein? That somebody of that name and William Wess belonged to the same Trade Union (in 1891), which by 1888 had 7,400 members in the metropolis? That 15 years apart they both had connections with the Tobacco Industry? Or do we have something more please?

There are thousands of tobacco outworkers all over LOndon

                      All the best

                        Hello Dave. Thanks.

What he wore was none of my business. (heh-heh)

I would guess that Goldstein persuaded him that tobacco was where the money lay.

                        Cheers.

We know that on the night in question that Leon was walking in the direction of the club, past the locked front door towards the gates..while carrying empty cigarette cartons in his black bag. And just inside the gates were cigarette makers in the cottages that stated they were awake at the time.

                          Cheers Dave

Might have been like Mrs Doubtfire described,... a drive-by-fruiting.

With respect no Michael...we know that Goldstein walked down the road...that is all...anything else is surely surmise. For what it's worth we know somebody saw him en route because of the oblique wording of Swanson's report...we can read Mr Mortimer's account in the press if we choose to...but nowhere is there anything that says more than he walked down the road...no statements regarding jews out in the yard as he did so...nothing

                              Sorry!

Hello Dave. Very well. It is a fairly weak induction.

But will you agree that Wess knew Goldstein?

                                Cheers.
