    Hello Sam,

I'd go with Beefheart, and add:

    Borderline, for me, maybe.

    Dave Brubeck

    Yes

Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (I'm serious)

Saw them many times, but then I'm an urban spaceman from way back.

    Velvet Underground

Lou Reed, John Cale and a bit of Nico, how could you go wrong?

    The Beatles

    Of course

    Miles Davis

    Named our son after him.

    Soft Machine

Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers and Daevid(sp?) Allen deserve to be on the list individually.

    Pink Floyd

Only when Mr Grumpy was with them.

    Focus

    Meh!

    Zappa

    Mother of all bands!

        Hello Gut,

        Elvis

        Doh!

        Bob

        And Leonard and Neil

        The Who

Personally, love The Who dearly, more than some on the list, but they should only be honourable mentions

        Elton

        More Bernie than Elton

        bee Gees

        Guess so ...

Aussie call out for Vanda and Young as world class tunesmiths.

          Hello Robert,

          Sparks

Not for me, but I'd take them over the B52's.

          Kate Bush.

          Top five!

and let's hear it for Joni Mitchell and Patti Smith.

And my list would include Ray Davies, with or without The Kinks, Ian Dury and Fairport Convention. Probably will think of more later.

            Oh wait ... Nina Simone!

Bruce Robinson just called and asked for Michael Maybrick to be put on the list.

Damn! How could I forget Eno.

Which makes me think of Bob Fripp, so maybe King Crimson for an honourable mention.

                        King Crimson
                        Be-Bop Deluxe
                        Robert Johnson

I know they all aren't "super stars" but all were very successful....I would say Run DMC and NWA....love it or hate it they did change the sound .

Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads to become the greatest guitar player in the world. True story.
