Ha!
Just had a brief glance at Llantarnam and a look at Foundry Row - and found this

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index...,387094.0.html

The mention of both Kelly and Davies living on the same row (albeit decades later), and the connection to iron working, really ring some bells...

I suggest that this is an area in which we perhaps should be concentrating our efforts!

Nicholas 19 (can't read occupation)
Mary Ann 16 (too old to be MJK???)
James 9
William 7
Thomas himself 4
Margaret 11

I have a slight query as to why Margaret, aged 11, is last on the list when the other children are in descending order of age. Out of favour? I'm having difficulty in finding the family in 1881, but will post if I find them. Update: I can find a Thomas Daulton, but the father's name is now Nicholas, not James, so I don't see how it can be the same family. Any thoughts?

Regards, Bridewell.
These are the details given for Dalton's next of kin in his file. It looks like you have identified the correct family in 1871, anyhow.

father James Dalton 2 Waterloo Cottage Cwmbrayn Newport Monmouthshire South Wales
brother (older) James Dalton
brother (older) William Dalton serving in ??Artillery

Default explosive topic

Hello Dr. H. Hmm, perhaps we should look for explosions around 1880 there?

Cheers.

There were two born the same year and place, Lynn.
One with a father named James, a cordwainer, one with a father named Richard, a gardener. The Scots Guard's father was named Richard.

Here are the two different men in the 1871 index. By 1881, our man would be listed in London (or abroad) rather than Wales and his place of birth could simply be given as Wales, in that case.

Household DAVIES, Edward 1857 4 M Llanfyllin Montgomeryshire
Household DAVIES, Edward 1857 4 M Llanfyllin Montgomeryshire

Edit: It looks like the Scots Guards were in Dublin 1880 through to July 81 at least.
