  • British Serial Killers

A thread to discuss the overall caases which have shocked us at some point in the past.

With the sentancing of the "Suffolk Strangler" taking up countless Newspaper columns and Airtime on TV I thought it would be a good idea to look at the Evil that has walked the darkest of paths before.

I think everyone remembers when Harold Shipman was caught and tried for the murder of hundreds* of patients, he had served in his capacity as doctor.

And the capture and Trial of Fred and Rosemary West, and the shocking story of "The House of Horrors", were children were taken, beaten, raped, tortured and killed.

The "Moors Murders" with Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, again focusing on children, again no one has a true idea of the actual victim count.

Peter Sutcliffe aka "The Yorkshire Ripper" who worked his way through Yorkshire attacking and killing women, until his capture and sentance.

These were seen as ordinary people, yet did extraordinary things.

Here are some link from the newspapers this morning,

    Hi Mike,

At least a couple of those administered their own death penalty.

There were the, at least partially, legendary Sawney Beane and Sweeney Todd.

    The possibly earliest John Williams.

My main interest would be in the unsolved ones like Bible John and Jack the Stripper but I assume they'll have their own threads pretty soon.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

I count about 80 British serial killers in the 20th Century. David Wilson's count of 20 is flawed.

        Hi DP.

I would love to see a list of them on here, I have loads of books on serial murder but they all cover the same old cases!

            Thames Torso

By British do you mean British Isles, just the island of Britain, British colonies, British citizens or what?
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

British Isles - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland (technically not Britain but y'know)

              Thames Torso?

                Hi Dark,

Thames Torso - Jack's contemporary - Elizabeth Jackson etc.

RoI was technically British until 1948 or whatever; still part of the British Isles. They'll have to lobby the geographers if they want that changed.

In that case add Alice Kyteler

Well seems you can add Mark Dixie to you list of english serial killers with his recent conviction but what about Australia?

seems like he lived here for a while and is suspected of more

                    Hi all,

I'll add the team of Amelia Sach and Annie Walters as well as 4 unsolved cases.

                    Devon Slasher
                    Ham Vanishings
                    Croydon Poisonings
                    Bingham Poisonings

I have 32 more solo killers I'll add later which should raise the tally to well over 100.
