If it's the same as what we call it in Britain, then it doesn't really taste of much at all, come to think of it, never mind cheese. Cottage cheese has a texture and appearance not dissimilar to slightly overcooked scrambled eggs, whereas clotted cream isn't like that - it's thick, gloopy and smooth.

yup that sounds like cottage cheese. Its white and lumpy as you say and wet-you have to eat it from a bowl. and your right it dosnt have much of a taste-more creamy than cheesey.

however, my mom used to make it for me as a kid with a little sugar and berries-rasberries or blueberries or strawberries and it is very tasty like that!

I had a cream tea this afternoon: hot scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam. If I'd known it was such a hot Ripperological topic, I'd have taken a photo.

Sounds good. That said, I'm OK with cottage cheese in its "native state", as I quite like plain food. (Don't get me wrong - I like tasty food, too!)

I once made something very similar simply by leaving a bottle of jersey milk unopened in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

Sam try it with some fresh rasberries and just a sprinkle of sugar. Heaven!

                  Ok next question:
How do you eat/ serve clotted cream? Plain in a bowl, with fruit? Spread on bread?

                  Im fascinated.

Any way you like, Abby - it's just a kind of cream.
Here's how I had it today (not my photo and these scones are pretty pathetic).

The people at our local British-style teashop said put the jam on first, then the cream, when having with scones. Definitely yummy!

I spent the afternoon at a drug-fuelled party drinking Jack Daniels with 2 lap dancers whilst listening to Motörhead.

Well......no I didn’t actually but I thought that I’d wandered into a Women’s Institute meeting and so I decided to try and make the thread a bit more rock and roll

The question is......is it pronounced ‘scons’ or ‘scones’ (rhyming with ‘bones?)

Abby, I’ll exempt you from that question. I hope that you had a great Independance Day by the way.
