  • So I just saw "The Lodger" (2009)

I thought it was quite a crap-fest of a movie.

I never finished watching Alfred Hitchcock's version and never read the book, but if they are similar, I think I'll pass on them.

Is there anyone here who has seen the 2009 version and if so, what do you think?
    Scarlett (2010) (Completed)

Witness a modernized retelling of London's most gruesome mutilation, the murder of Mary Jane Kelly at the hands of the notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

It was pretty poor, as film-making, as entertainment, as a Ripper tale and as an adaptation of the book, which is actually pretty good.

      The Lodger

Yes, I agree that the 2009 version has little to recommend it -- although you can hardly ever go wrong with Al Molina, so there is that. Even the brief glimpse of Casebook in the film is hardly worth seeking it out to see. And the premise that the killer is re-creating the murder locations by committing the murders along Sunset Blvd shows a complete disregard for the facts in the case.

The Hitchcock version is good, in its way, if only for the performance of Laird Cregar, who does excellent work.

That's one of the few reasons why I saw it, cause of Alfred Molina. I don't know why he would wanna be in such a movie. Cause as a movie buff, I don't ever watch straight to DVD movies. I despise them.

And what's the deal with the Annie Chapman murder coming AFTER the Double Event?

This movie had so much potential and they butchered it. It WAS cool to see casebook in the movie though.

Maybe I'll finish watching Hitchcock's version sometime.

          The Lodger

The Hitchcock version is not one to turn to for a genuine JTR experience -- but it does have some nice moments.

No, I know. I just thought maybe it's a better version then the 2009 version.
