  • Another woman [Hayes] gave evidence that she had last seen Emma Smith between 12 and one on Tuesday morning [3 Apr], talking to a man in a black dress, wearing a white neckerchief. It was near Farrant-street, Burdett-road. She was hurrying away from the neighbourhood, as she had herself been struck in the mouth a few minutes before by some young men.She did not believe that the man talking to Smith was one of them. The quarter was a fearfully rough one. Just before Christmas last she had been injured by men under circumstances of a similar nature, and was a fortnight in the infirmary.

Margaret Hames. Yes it does sound like the east end was a rough old place. According to some, Smith wasn't attacked by a gang, the people at her lodging house knew that, and that is why it wasn't felt necessary for her to be chaperoned to hospital by a man.

      • To be fair Burdett Road is a fair distance from the corner of Osbourne Street, and Wentworth Street. If Hayes had been hit in the mouth by a group of young men in the vicinity of Burdett Road, I doubt they would have followed Smith all that distance to Osbourne Street before commencing an attack upon her person

        • She said she was attacked by more than one man. Why the hell would she lie about that?!?

            Who would those persons be?

            • The thing Tom found 'particularly troublesome' about Mary Russell's behaviour is that she claimed to have immediately taken Smith to hospital, thereby leaving her bed linen and best china accessible to her lodgers.😂

It doesn't trouble me at all, because I've no doubt that there was someone else on the premises that could keep an eye on the 'Wedgewood'.

                Is anyone suggesting they did?

In all probability they were drinking out of jam jars, and sleeping on bare boards

What, leave valuable jam jars and floorboards in the hands of thieving Cockneys? No way! I find that suggestion very troublesome.

True, in my dads time you could get into the flics for three jam jars

And get fish and chips, ten Woodbines and a bus home out of the change? Those were the days.

I just find it hilarious that someone claims to find it troublesome (read suspicious) that a lodging house deputy might want to escort a seriously injured lodger to hospital as a matter of urgency.

She'd be too scared, it's implied. She couldn't leave the premises for fear that the lodgers would steal the cups and saucers. Unless, of course.... cue conspiratorial music.

Is there something wrong with giving things context like...
                            • Close to where Tabram was attacked sexually also.
                            • People told lies about Tabram's murder.
                            • Meaning the possibility Smith didn't tell the truth either.
                            • and almost all (if not all) seemingly having links to C5 through several different possibilities.

                            and most of all...

... we have a killer learning and evolving their MO and signature, so it chronologically works too. As does Tabram.
Bona fide canonical and then some.

Yes there's a lot of it about. Take this thread as an example

I have yet to see you provide a valid criticism of this thread except to just subjectively dismiss it and talk about jam instead and try to demean me (calling me bait man). I don't think you have anything to offer as critic that already hasn't been defeated.

Are you are one of those who think Smith and Tabram aren't sexual assaults and sexual homicides? Want to try and argue that?

You can dismiss that it is linked to JtR but the Geographic profile combined with what we know about the lives of the C5 and these two others plus location, timing, chronological escalation and learning of the offender, fits like a glove.

                                So what's your point?

Another big coincidence claim to sell to me?
