We held talks Friday afternoon then all day Saturday with a bus tour of downtown Baltimore on Sunday for four hours starting at 9:00 am. I stayed at the Mt Vernon Hotel Saturday night so I would be in good shape to lead the bus tour Sunday morning. Attendees at the event decided to eat at an Ethiopian restaurant up the street but I didn't fancy that so I just ordered room service. I had filet mignon and a bottle of red wine.

Here are a few shots I took at the hotel from the window of my room looking out at Mt Vernon Square and the city's Washington Monument. First several shots are of the square on Saturday evening. It had been rainy and blowy during the day so the streets and sidewalks were wet. The photographs were taken between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm as dusk closed in. Note one shot of the flag above the window then one of the illuminated monument around 7:30 pm. Then the last photo -- a shot of the monument on Sunday morning, which thankfully dawned sunny and dry which was good because I had photographs and documents that I wanted to show the folks during the tour!

    Hi Chris,

I am sorry I could not attend this one, and hope I can do the next Baltimore conference.

That is the Baltimore "Washington Memorial" I believe in those photographs. It is the oldest memorial to George Washington in the U.S. I saw it passing in a car through Baltimore back around 1994.

    • The Washington Monument in Baltimore is the first major formal monument to the nation's first president. The architect was Robert Mills who also designed the Washington Monument in D.C., although that monument is an obelisk and not a classical column as here. The next two photographs were taken in George's Restaurant at the Mt Vernon Hotel... named for the first president, naturally!

I'm not sure if the photograph was just before or just after Brian took me to the back alley and beat me up. You'll notice the expression of self-satisfaction on Brian's face. You know those boxing fans.

The talks at RipperCon 2016 should be appearing before long on RipperCast as well. Watch out for the recordings to appear at http://www.casebook.org/podcast/.

                        • Thanks, Chris! By the way, the subject of these 17 minutes is the true source for Tumblety being arrested on suspicion - Scotland Yard. Enjoy!

                            • Hi all

Another photo from RipperCon courtesy of Robert Anderson.

Dr. Charles Tumosa of the University of Baltimore (UB) chatting with Martin Fido. Dr. Tumosa is Director of UB's Forensic Studies Program. His chosen topic for his Saturday morning talk at RipperCon was "The Forensic Time Machine: Looking Backward."

Charlie Tumosa worked at the Philadelphia Police Laboratory from 1971 to 1989 examining evidence in crimes of violence. He retired there as head of the Criminalistics Lab in 1989 and went to work at the Smithsonian Institution. At the Smithsonian's Silver Hill facility he set up an analytical laboratory. His position with the Smithsonian gradually morphed into a research position examining cultural materials and determining ways to preserve them before retiring to join UB.

Incidentally, Dr. Tumosa said he would welcome hearing by email from Ripperologists who have questions about forensic science. His email address is ctumosa@ubalt.edu.

                              Best regards
