Has anyone seen Emma Abberline's death certificate?
In 1891 census, she was said to be 41 years old, while she actually was 38.
10 years later, she was said to be 54, though she was in fact 48.
So I wonder at what age she died!

      Hi Johnr,

Just to be boringly pedantic—Bournemouth was in Hampshire until 1974.

      Regards,

      Simon

        Dorset

I recently returned from a holiday in Dorset, and I visited Abberlines house in Bournemouth as well as his grave...I also saw Druitts grave and his family home in Wimbourne....its a huge house, the garden is now a public car park in the town centre...

Wimbourne isnt far from Blandford Forum....

Not sure where to put this so I'll put it here. Here in the States it's January 8th--Abberline's birthday! I'm curious, if Abberline were still alive today how old would he be today?

Hello FAB. I think that would be169 years. (born 1843)

By my calculations that's slightly older than me.

            Cheers.

              Here is Fred Abberline's grave....

Until recent years Abberline and his wife did not have a grave marker. The above photograph appeared in Ripperologist 80, and was provided by Michael Stead, Bournemouth Council. Also see this thread at JtR Forums.

I am wondering, who paid for this new grave marker then? (The Council?) If it were family, maybe they would be the ones to ask re. photos.

                        Cheers!

To whomever put it up: thanks; it's a very nice marker. (My compliments to the photographer, too.)

                              a question

                              Hello Chris,

A belated happy birthday young man,

a question or two that you may be able to answer with regard to Abberline that I have respectfujy asked before but have yet to receive the answers,

In the A-Z It states the following :-

" (Abberline) served 35 days in the militia before joining the Met Police in 1863.."

Can you tell me what Branch of the militia, why only 35 days, what reason for his short stay and leaving and from where does this information derive?

Was Abberline dismissed from the Militia?

                              kind regards

                              Phil

                                Hi Phil,

I've often wondered where the A-Z gets some of its information.

                                Regards,

                                Simon
