  • 'Horrors of Pre-Anasthetic Surgery' Website

Hi everyone. I came across a fascinating website I thought I'd share; as the thread title suggests, it deals with "the horrors of pre-anesthetic surgery."

The website is called 'The Chirurgeon's Apprentice' and is operated by (oops, bad pun!) a medical historian at the University of London. "Chirurgeon" is an archaic term for "surgeon".

The site has two years of archived blog posts, a library of suggested works for further reading, and a feature called "Pick The Chirurgeon's Brain" where you can ask any kind of question you want.

(If any of you ask a question, perhaps you'd be so kind as to share the answer with the rest of us? Thanks.)

    'The Chirurgeon's Apprentice': http://thechirurgeonsapprentice.com/

    Best regards,
    Archaic

      Hi Archaic,

we Germans still call these guys "Chirurg" (singular) or "Chirurgen" (plural), btw.

Interesting links, thanks for sharing. It's kinda unpleasant to think about what some patients had to go through in the old days...

      Regards,

      Boris

        Hi Boris.

Thanks for your post, I had no idea the word was still in use.

Yeah, it's pretty scary to imagine a world without anesthesia!

        Best regards,
