  • The Trial of George Chapman - is it online?

The Trial of George Chapman By Hargrave Lee Adam, 1930

Does anyone know if it's online or where I can read a copy?

    Cheers

Thanks for replying Norma. That is bad news. I hoped that, with all the interest in Ripper suspects over the years, someone would have put it online. It could take me ages to get sight of it.

      Cheers Helena

That shouldn't be bad news Helena, I get all my out of print archaeological reference works by special order through Interlibrary Loans, for a modest fee you can obtain almost anything within reason.

        Go for it girl!

I have it requested on interlibray loan but the librarian said it could take weeks, even months.

A few years back I requested some books that way for research and they finally arrived after 4 and 8 months respectively.

It was published in 1930, and Hargrave Adam died in 1946, so I think it will still be in copyright everywhere. I think you're being a bit over-optimistic in expecting to find it online for free.

I don't know what your financial situation is, Helena, but excellent reprints of Adam's book used to be available from Gaunt, Inc. in Holmes Beach, Florida, for under $100. If you can afford the price, you might try checking their website.

You say that but, only yesterday I found a whole book online for free that had only been published about five years ago, so you never know what you might find.

If it's still in copyright then how can THEY reprint it while I am not allowed to?

                    Helena

I'll be happy to lend you my copy if you send me an address via Private Message.

                    Stephen

ps, a bit pedantic but the title of the book is 'Trial of George Chapman' (no 'The')

How extraordinarily generous of you. I'm most touched by that!

What wonderful people I have met on this board. Someone has even offered to proofread my book.

Yes I found out a coupla days back about the superfluos "The" and had already corrected it in my draft text. One SO wants to put a "The" though, don't you think?

                      I will PM you.

Carrying on from my comment in post #9, I see that Arthur Fowler Neil's 1932 book is being reprinted, and he didn't die till 1939.

If the books are still under copyright, publishers can arrange to reprint them by paying the appropriate licensing fees to the copyright holders.
