    Anyone on here no the exact involvement if any the merseyside police had investigating the forgery claims about the diary when it appeared all those years ago

      can only suggest you read Feldman's and Caz's books, in which there is reference to police interest in the Diary, if not directly in Mike Barrett. There certainly was some interest on the part of the Old Bill, who were interested in the possibility of fraud, but so far as I know no case was ever brought against anyone. The police wouldn't be interested in the Diary as a hoax, a forgery, a laff, call it what you will, unless and until someone tried to profit by it. I also recall that a former member of Merseyside police, after he'd met Mike Barrett, offered the opinion that there was 'no way' Barrett could have written the Diary.
