  • Nellie Clarke Murder

I don't know how familiar people are with the murder of Nellie Clarke. It's the case of a little girl raped and murdered in January of 1925, but what really makes it strange is that on the night of the murder, at about 10pm or so (believed to be close to the time of the murder), a little girl was heard to beat frantically on the door of a house near the murder scene, screaming "Help me! Father Christmas is after me!" By the time the door could be answered, there was no-one in sight.

There is a wonderful account at http://birkenheadtimes.awardspace.com/nelly_index_1.htm , which makes IMHO a clever, quite plausible argument as to who the murderer was, and why the girl made that peculiar plea.
