  • These are some photos I came across recently. They are photos of photos. I've tried to eliminate distortions and glares as best as I can.

        • Amazing pics, Rob!
          Thanks so much for sharing
In the two "Unknown" pics, any idea what those strangely angled wooden projections are?

          • These are great Rob,
Until recently I had pictures in my mind that "Royal Mint Street" was quite a glitzy place, its great to dash that image with a earthly looking place.

            Fantastic pictures!

Chris, the wooden slats look like it rain shelter albeit at a strange angle, my other suggestion would be a landing for loading down onto awaiting carts in the street, but again the angle looks odd!

            I therefore have no idea!
            Regards Mike

              • Hi Mike
If you look at the first "Unknown" pic there is a figure on the pavement below the wooden structure and this makes it clear the projection, whatever it is, is far too high to shelter anyone on the pavement below
From the position and the angle it looks as though these structures are to catch anything coming out of the upper windows and prevent them falling to the pavement - though what, I have no idea!

                • Thanks for the comments guys. I've no idea what those wooden projections are. The back of the photo said Prusom Street area. It could be Prusom Street itself which is in Wapping. The angles about right.

                  • I worked at a victorian factory in Hull which had similar things which were used to stop suicides!! They were recent additions though, but very gruesome. There had been quite a lot of suicides reported at the factory.

                    • Great pictures, Rob. With the Providence Cottages, there is even the illusion(?) that the building is bending inwards as you go upwards.

Description London Nomades. A goup of people gather around a caravan. Called Nomades in Victorian times, these groups of people would attend fairs, markets and sell cheap ornaments and wares from door to door. Nomades were wanderers, they constantly traveled and migrate to other parts of the world.

                            • Rob - I saw a similar set of temporary projections on the side of a building last week (just mainly scaffolding poles replacing the outward timbers). I have a feeling it may be to do with building work going on on the roof and the boards there are to catch any sliding timbers or tiles. Early H&S.

Tour guides do it loudly in front of a crowd.

Possibly, wooden fencing is being put up around the front of the building, I did think of demolition?
