I don't know, but John's father Michael Eddowes, who was mentally ill, apparently wrote a book years ago which was the first one on the Evans case. He believed that the little Welshman was innocent. I wonder whether Eddowes is a common English surname? I've only known one Eddowes and he was a grocer. I don't think he had any connection with Kate or with John/Michael, though!

Per http://www.taliesin-arlein.net/names/search.php, there are 310 people surnamed Eddowes in England and Wales. It ranks 16001 in frequency, so by no means a common name.
