One of the strangest things about this story was that it said the perpetrator "Lewis Pollard... the father of twenty-four children, has murdered his only son's wife..." and in the Ohio newspaper that "he was the father of 24 children, all living but two." So this means he had at least 21 daughters... and only one son? What are the odds of that?

Incidentally a list purporting to show every execution that ever took place in America does not contain the name of Lewis Pollard. So maybe he got off with his life?

    1905 Crime Reportage

http://www.criminalhistorian.com/murder-by-reportage/ is an unfortunately short, but interesting nonetheless, article about how different newspapers in 1905 covered a lurid crime, the details of which seem to have been largely unknown at the time.
