Sam,
thanks for sharing that, really enjoyable clips
there, especially as I have just seen the movie
recently which I loved (except too many throat slittings)
.. the sets, the makeup look, and costumes of
Johnny Depp and my husbands all time favourite, Helena
Bonham Carter were wonderful. The 'pies' were unexpected
and hysterical, certainly a different type of movie.
Knew nothing about Sweeney Todd until the movie came out.
Victoria
ps. just read some earlier posts here .. I was told there really
was a 'demon barber' .. obviously my informant was incorrect.
Just a legend .. ok. I am not convinced re King Arthur though.

It's theatre at its bestOriginally posted by DarkPassenger View PostIt's a musical!?
And, yes, it's a musical - the same music as in the Depp movie, but enhanced by its being a live performance, and generally given much more "Oomph!".
Have a little clip

Get the Lansbury/Hearn performance of the musical on DVD. It's a theatrical tour de force, and I for one - ahem! - "lovett"Originally posted by DarkPassenger View PostGimme Ray Winstone any day! It's about the only other one out, isn't it?
Depp was pretty good, I thought - and the film was certainly a different, and rather refreshing, take on the musical. Nowhere near as good as Lansbury and her two Todds, however. The real stars, though, are Sondheim's fabulous lyrics and superbly well-crafted musical score.

Sam,
My post had absolutely 100% nothing to do with Dan, and I resent the implication that it did. My history on these boards shows that I do not jump into his discussions. We are not in the habit of publicly defending one another. I've always been wary of jumping into certain threads, and your response is evidence of why. My opinions and ideas are my own. Period. Please refrain from suggesting that they are otherwise.
I posted again because I was originally involved in this thread. I merely wanted to point out that,to me, your post sounded like it wasn't you. Hats off to you for coming off so well. You've explained yourself adequately now.
