Heat Wave

It was 41 on centre court the other day.

Luckily I'm just South of the border so nowhere near London, but I reckon it's about 32 outside and it's getting right on my nerves. Bring back the good old English 'mild with spots of rain' weather. Can't sleep for love nor money at the moment.

Far too hot. At this rate we'll be developing animals that hate you and want to kill you, like they have over there in your part of the world.

Why anyone would want to wander around in such heat is beyond me.

Centre Court is always worth an extra 5C or so.

Could have done years ago, but these days we don't get any snow at all (at least not in the English Midlands where I live). This winter (2014-15) we had one snow-shower some time in February, which didn't stick, and that was it.

I can't remember if it was late January 1977 or 1978, but we were living in NE Ohio at the time, and in one ghastly night about 35" of snow were dumped on us. Yes, it most certainly did shut everything down - and for a long time. I had another 2 - 3 years of my contract to run when this happened, but there and then on that dreadful morning I wrote out my non-acceptance of any extension to my contract, should that be offered to me.

Now tell me - what would you prefer?

And, the lightening was a like a laser show for a couple of hours, the sky lit up as far as the eye could see!

I was born and raised in Yorkshire, and the winters weren't anything like as bad as we get here, but we are all equipped to handle it. I used to ride a motorcycle to work all year round, you couldn't do that here.

It was the unbearable weather - stinking hot summers, bitterly cold winters, with little or no spring or autumn in between - that drove us out of NE Ohio in 1980. Here in dear old England we don't get heat-waves very often, but also we don't get blizzards, tornadoes, droughts, forest fires, tidal surges, fog (in spite of what Yanks and Aussies might think), hurricanes, lethal hail-storms, plagues of frogs and rivers of blood. Unfortunately, given the behaviour of the kid across the road, we don't get death of the firstborn, either.

What on earth is the kid across the road doing? Has he enslaved a huge number of people to build storage cities and pyramids, and refuses their spiritual leader's demand for their release? I believe that was the last time the "slaying of the first born" occurred.

Me and my missus spent the most god-awful week in Washington DC, 100 deg F and 99% humidity. We spent the entire 7 days in various air-conditioned museums. We also nearly got mugged in the Metro.

You can shove your hot climates, thanks very much.

It's not the heat it's the stupidity

It's 88F here with 90% humidity, or like being in a sauna with your clothes on, a feat I've never imagined. I'm always hot too, pinkmoon. There are no dragons here, just cottonmouth snakes, snapping turtles that bite & alligators.
