  • Kris Kristofferson 1936-2024

    Damnit, we've lost another one.

I would go as far as to say he was one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived.

In Ken Burns' magnificent documentary series "Country Music", Marty Stuart described him as a "poet"............that seems about right.

"I have seen the morning burning golden on the mountain in the skies
Aching with the feeling of the freedom of an eagle when she flies
Turning on the world the way she smiled upon my soul as I lay dying
Healing as the colors in the sunshine and the shadows of her eyes."

Indisputably a fantastic song writer. Sadly a wife beater in his personal life, according to Rita Coolidge, which not so good, but that should be remember too.

Coolidge herself was not spared physical abuse. Kristofferson struck her once, drunkenly (“it never happened again”) and on Joe Cocker’s infamous Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, her boyfriend at the time, Jim Gordon, hit her violently in a hotel corridor that left her with a black eye for the rest of the tour. Coolidge never spoke to him again.

Gordon also stole Coolidge's tune and gave to Clapton for Layla.
