    Steady:

We just call it "the finals"....preliminary final, elimination final, semi-final, grand final. Same thing really

Once the footy is over, it's all about the cricket, as we prepare to do a demolition job on England when they come over here. The Ashes test cricket series is huge in both countries. Who do you go for in the American football?

Not sure what more I can tell you about Oz that you don't already know, you'll just have to check it out for yourself! Might come to the States one day but probably not NYC, too big for my liking lol....Melbourne is nice but don't like big, busy cities. You'd probably like it though as you're used to it!

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Hmmm "playoffs" is an Americanism.... wow I really didn't know that.... what do you call the post season.... just "post season" ? should be a fun week.... I do hate playing the Swans the last game.... don't know if you ever noticed...I really do not like the Swans.....no idea why, just never did.

so once AFL is over what sport do you follow the rest of the year.... as i said, here we have our football just starting, and Hockey soon.. and Baseball is getting towards the end entering the "playoffs" (had to say it again.... )

So do tell me more about your area..I would love to hear about it..... as I said.. when I do get a chance to go overthere... well would like a good idea where to go..... I know Sydney will be on the list (yuck swans fans!!) and I have a friend in Port Agusta....but need more places.....

and I know you cant take the accent.. but you should think about a trip to the states.... or Canada.... good times and not as scary as you would think (well.... ok Detroit is that scary.. but thats about it)

hope to hear from you all soon.....

    GO BRISBANE

Yes, well done to the Lions, Steady! Very nicely done, and West Coast lost as well, so atleast we know they are stuck with the wooden spoon now.

Fairly confident about the Port game, and hopefully your mob can beat Sydney as well, even if they are set for a place in the "playoffs" (love that Americanism, I had to stop and think what it was for a second lol)....

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Did I not say that I had a good feeling about Essendon!!! look at that... the Lions win and jump two places on the ladder....now.. I do not feel so good about the Swans next week... but thats ok.... we got our 7th win (and when you start the season 4-0 thats just sad and pathetic huh?)...

and I see the Blues are hanging on to that last playoff spot.... gonna be hard this week though... I wish you all the luck...

now Adam... oh boy actually that was a great showing against St. Kilda (got to watch that game too.... I was pulling for ya!!) lets hope you can finish the season with a nice win over Port Adalaide huh??

one more week to go..... then what do we do with our time? hahaha.

    Phyrne:

Yeah the Crown would be alright, though it'd probably be pretty busy there....

We've had our beating for the weekend as well, though not entirely unhappy with the performance. Hope that Cuz can get up for his last game next weekend.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

No, I don't know anyone who drinks Fosters either. I drink VB or Carlton mostly, or if I'm in Sydney Reschs. I've never been to the Crown - it's in the casino, yeah? There are a couple of proper, old-fashioned pubs left in town if you'd like the experience, but the Crown would certainly have better views.

I second Adam's comment about the 'G, steady. Gotta experience it if you're here: it's awesome.

Good luck to you two for this weekend. My mob's already had their thrashing.

    Phyrne:

What? The DOW is no more? I didn't know about that, that's terrible!
It really was a very nice pub, great place to meet up.

Well then, I guess we've always got the choice of The Crown? Then we can watch Steady telling us how much cleaner the Yarra is than the Hudson....heh, heh, heh.

    Steady:

Nobody drinks Fosters down here that I know of either. It's a myth. You'd probably be going for one of Boags, VB or Tooheys.....I'm not a big fan of beer myself, prefer Canadian Club or Mercury Cider or Bundaberg.....but Tooheys is probably the best of those 3 beers. Being Victorian, Phyrne might prefer his VB, though?

By the way, if you do see an AFL game down here at any point, make sure it's at the MCG and not Etihad.....much nicer ground, and can fit 100,000 people when full.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Ok.... so it's not like a Mad Max film...but is it anything like a Yahoo Serious film?? (I shouldnt joke.... I actually like Yahoo's films.... all three of them )

And oh I'm sure there is someplace to find a beer there...isn't that like your national drink? (sorry... couldnt resist) however I would like to know what kind of Beer you like.... never talked to an aussie who drank Fosters....and well.. I do kinda like Fosters... met a few who were Budweiser drinkers... seems odd to me for some reason.

and the accents... oh i can deal with your accents.... it's mine that will drive you all crazy... because of where I live I have a wonderful half New York/ half Canadian accent.... fun sounding accent to be sure.

lets see what else do I know about Australia.....hmmm you have the largest collection of things that will kill.. snakes, sharks, poison fish etc, hmmm you have the best version of football on the planet (see the past 100 and some posts for more info on that).... and...... Jeff Fenech... remember I am a boxing guy after all.....

well...almost game times eh? good luck to ya all this weekend..... mark my words.. I'm having a great feeling about my Lions this week

have a great weekend and talk to you all soon I hope..

    I'm up for that, Adam.

Unfortunately the poor ol' "Jooker", as we used to call it, is no more. Part of the shell's still there, but a couple of years ago THEY (ie poxy greedy developers) knocked half of it down and built a bloody great apartment block on top of the remains. As far as as know (haven't been past it for a few months) it's still sitting there stripped of all its fittings and interior walls, growing increasingly shabby . I loved the Jooker.

In fact there are very few real pubs left in the City - they've all been turned into tappas bars or worse. Even the lovely old Young & Jackson's and the Waterside (which used to be my 2nd and 3rd favourite Melbourne pubs) have been turned into yuppified horrors.

Still, I expect we'll find somewhere to have a beer

    Phyrne:

No, you're right, best not to mention that - or those vicious, blood-sucking, flesh-eating, horrid creatures known as the "wombat".....

Coincidentally, I've actually been to a forum meet-up in Melbourne before, though that was a few years ago and was for a military history forum....we met up at the Duke of Wellington. Don't know that we have enough Australian members in the area to do something similar again, but it might be worthwhile keeping it in mind incase it's possible in the future.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Just hope you can put up with/understand our accents, Steady!

Don't worry about Mad Max, just bear in mind that the cool people ride emu's down the street, not kangaroos....and if you don't know the words to every Jimmy Barnes song, you're in trouble.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Thanks both of you.. I will be sure to do that if I can make the trip.... which I do so want to do!! Just please tell me it's not like a Mad Max movie or anything (Just kidding.. but I had to make the joke as Road Warrior was on last night!)... but oh I will look you all up if and when I get there.

How about them Blues eh?.. been a while Phryne how have you been?

ok.... I must get to bed now as I just got back from taking my girlfriend to a big Fair here, and well I'm not as young as I use to be.... and she is (she is only 24.. yikes) and it makes me tired just pretending to have the energy I once did.

Hope everyone is having a good week and look foward to hearing from you soon.

Phyrne, I thought you were a Dogs supporter? (Although i'd be hiding the fact that I was a Dogs supporter after last weekend's performance too....heh, heh....)

And yes, Steady, what Phyrne said about you coming down this way....

    Cheers,
    Adam.
