If you've been a Richmond supporter for many years, the mental scars still linger from being burnt too many times before, so we won't get our hopes up too much just yet. May be hard to keep a lid on it if we beat the Bulldogs though.

Looking forward to getting the jersey and i'll definitely do that, and try to send something back as well.....at least you're staying loyal, i've heard many Brissy supporters saying they're not renewing their membership, not watching the footy anymore, etc....typical reactionary stuff.

Huge win for you over the dockers eh? and the Buldogs this week.. you should have no problem with them.. especially since there is no more Jason Akermanis to worry about hahah (he he was great as a Lion!!)

anyway.. just got word that your Jersey should be at my place this week then it's off to the post office... I do think you should post a picture of you wearing it once it arrives!!!

Hey Steady,

Yeah the US certainly does seem to be in its own shell a bit when it comes to sports - doesn't know much, or anything, about AFL football or cricket either. I know that every so often they play exhibition matches over that way so hopefully that continues and eventually it will catch on....

I don't know that any of the pub folk were cheering for Brisbane - Tassie doesn't yet have its own AFL team so you generally find that the majority of Tassie football fans support Victorian teams. Hawthorn are the closest to our team - the "Tassie Hawks" - sort of our adopted Victorian team. But in all honestly, I think they just thought I was stupid....which is fair enough, lol.

Thanks... I am just so happy I have a place, as an American, where i can talk about footy.. as I'm sure I've told you, it gets no coverage at all in the states, the only place I get to see it is on-line and I had to subscribe to that..this country doesnt even seem to know that the sport is out there.. sad really...

NOw the pub folks knew about the wager eh...they found it funny huh...now, here is the question, were any of them cheering for the crazy American??

And I hate it when fans turn on a team when they are not doing good.. that is such an American thing hahaha..it's sick, I always say you have to stand by your friends (or team) especially when things arent going well!!

Oh yes.. this is our week to win... infact i am going to predict the score now.......Brisbane 107- Gold Coast-63... now lets see how close I can get

I just love the fact that there's an American on here talking about footy like any Aussie bloke down at the pub would, haha....it's brilliant.
I also have to applaud your manner of supporting the Lions, always looking at the bright side - most of your fellow Lions supporters have been ripping shreds off the club, its players and its coaching staff!

Yes, everybody knew about the bet I had going.....security guards were doing their best to look serious while actually watching the game as well.

Keep the faith, Steady, a win won't be far away.....hey, at least you're not Port Adelaide.

So watched it in the pub eh? did you tell folks there about your bet with the crazy American Brisbane fan?? I do hope so... that reminds me.. I guess there is a picture of me hanging up in a pup somewhere in Port Augusta Australia... it's a picture of me with Jeff Fenech...long story..but hey.. he is a nice guy!!

Looks like you may have a hard time this week with the Dockers eh? but as I say.. at least neither of us are playing Geelong hahaha (how in the world is Cameron Ling still good... he should have been done 2 years ago....and don't even get me started on Stokes!!!)

oh and fear not.. figuring out the basics of baseball is easy.. not like that cricket thing hahaha... but yes.. soon enough you will be showing off a Babe Ruth jersey!!

Actually it was a really good game....I was watching it at the pub and i'm sure I made a total idiot of myself during the last quarter, but it was worthwhile.

Congrats!!! good game, and I am happy for your guys.. I actually got to watch most of it and wow what a fun game... and hey Brisbane did put up 98 so I don't feel too bad about it.. plus if I have to lose, well at least I lost to you eh?

Hey Steady,

Did manage to catch a bit of the Lions-Saints match last night, Lions didn't go too badly - was actually hoping you would beat them to be honest.

Cricket season has finished now, yeah - I don't think Australia plays any more matches until August when we have a series against Sri Lanka. It's a very complex game in terms of the rules and it would be difficult to understand for somebody who's not seen much of it, but if you watch a few matches and especially if you ever get the chance to see any games live in the future, check it out, you'll pick it up eventually - it's much easier doing it that way than trying to explain the cricket rules to a foreigner, you just get blank looks, haha.

Now, for us to get a win against the Kangaroos and steamroll that team we're playing next week....

Thanks for the good wishes on my brother.. he does seem to be doing better but wow quite a scare for a few days there..

Ya know I am suprised there arent a few more AFL fans around.. there were last season.. then again, the seasson did just start so they may come along.. and after all cricket is done is it not?... Oh speaking of which, you would be proud, I ended up qatching quite a bit of cricket over the last month or so.. but I have to admit... I am so lost haha.. made very little sense to me..I just cant get my head around the fact that if you hit the ball behind you it's still ok... coming from a baseball mentality here ya know?

As far as this week goes... a 76-89 loss to the Saints isnt too bad.. and the boys did play well... but again a loss is a loss.. so sad that our first win will be against you next week

Sorry to hear about your brother, hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

Yeah it's been another deflating start to the season for us, yet to get a win on the board....let's hope it's this week against the Kangaroos who are struggling. To be fair we've played 4 of the best teams in the league in our first 4 weeks, which is never the easiest initiation, especially with a young team.

Will be a little more concerned about the Lions game if we lose and they win this weekend.

Shame that there's not more AFL supporters around here, this thread is a bit of a ghost town!

Sorry I've been a bit quiet this wek.. more family troubles.. younger bro this time.. bit of a stay in hospital but seems to be ok now.. fingers crossed...anyway.. his Geelong Cats are doing well.... and lets hope this week off will help my Lions... game tomorow.. we shall see..

Hard week for you Adam eh? sorry bout that... this is shaping up to make our week 6 meeting intense...I must say though.. I am looking foward to my brand new Lions jersey and hey if I lose.. getting a brother from down under to wear the Yankee pinstripes is sort of a victory for me.. isn't it ... by the way .. I will email you in a day or so.. so i can get your jersey size and see if you want a number on it or what not.. just incase I should lose
