Speaking of Richo's home state and scary old gaols - I've toured Port Arthur, too, and was stuffed down an isolation cell by a bunch of hoons who held the door shut on me for half an hour (charming lads!). I cannot imagine being in that dark, dark hole for six months - after half an hour I was befuddled and quite terrified. Of course, this appeased all morbid curiosity enough for me to cheerfully enjoy the rest of the place, lovely ships and things not related to psychological torture and sense deprivation. A truly beautiful area. I've been meaning to head back for some years now.

    Hey Ausgirl,

What an interesting place to live, although it definitely would be scary at times, and hardly surprising if ghosts did lurk around a place like that. If you haven't done so already, it's worthwhile checking out the Old Melbourne Gaol as well, which also happens to be where Frederick Deeming was imprisoned and later executed (not to mention Ned, of course) - that's a pretty eerie place as well.

I'm lucky enough to be in not only Richo's home state, but pretty close to Richo's home town. Have met the man several times in person over the years, good bloke.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Steadmund, you are a rare breed indeed - an American who enjoys watching the big men fly! I could never get my head around American football. All that padding. Wusses. And the stop-start of it is hard to enjoy after being used to Aus rules' continuous play. I am assured by my friends over there that -one day- I'll come to appreciate it. That, and orange American cheese. I have my doubts. I -may- become a baseball fan though - I just read a biography of Ty Cobb. What a character!

And I have never been to the States. That's definitely on the one-day list, though.

Adam, I live in the shadow of Pentridge, at the moment. I did the tour before they closed the old place down. That was an eye-opener, indeed. The original cells were a real insight into what life was for criminals back when; i.e., pretty bloody awful. I swear I bumped into a ghost, too, down in the underground cells. Gave me a right shiver.

And you're spot on about Richo. I've been saying morale is the problem for years - that and selection, though we could have done worse.

Yeah they were the good old days in a lot of ways when we Tigers were the dominant team. Players only have to brush one another these days and it's a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Probably most Tigers supporters have become a bit lax, I think we're all just sick of failure aren't we? Two finals series in the past 15 years, and none for a decade. Ouch. But don't worry, a few good wins under the belt and they'll start coming out of the woodwork again....

Actually hope they get Ben Cousins and particularly Richo back involved in the club in some way, that'd give the guys a big lift. Richo is probably the only reason a lot of Tigers fans stayed loyal over the past couple of decades, haha!

Anyway, yes, definitely welcome to the forums and I hope you enjoy it here (by the way, where abouts in Oz are you from?)

    Steady:

I promise that the pic is on the way, lol, and the Lions goodies from down here - very hectic these days but i'll be getting the new computer in the next couple of weeks and will get everything sorted out then.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Again.. welcome... I think you'll have a blast here, it's fun and a nice group of people...even if I'm the only Lions supporter

And the truth is, I'm not an Aussie in the USA, I'm actually an American, born and raised who just fell in love with the AFL (I'm also one of the few Americans who thinks American football is boring and almost un watchable... strange what with being a big fan of all sports.. oh well). My favorite sports are boxing and baseball, and I am in the process of trying to learn and understand cricket (with the help of Adam...but I must admit.. it's slow going)...

I so want to plan a trip to Australia soon... take in a Lions game or two and see the country...have you ever been to the States? Don't believe everything you read... it's not that bad here really.....well depends on where you go I guess.. but New York is great (I'm not in the city...just the state, actually live near Buffalo NY and a few miles from Niagara Falls..amazing area)

And Adam... still waiting on the picture (and phew am I glad we didn't bet on the second game as well hahahahah)..

Well the weather is starting to get better here, my head doesnt feel like it's going to explode anymore so I am going to try and enjoy my weekend (espically knowing that since it is a bye week, my Lions can't lose)...

Hope to hear from you all soon..

    Your friend across the ocean

Thanks for the welcomes! I'm the lone Tigers supporter in a family of Carlton and North Melb. supporters. I am pretty sure this came about when I was made to sing 'Ron Barrassi walks on water, fa lalala' one too many times and just sort of cracked. Good matches back then, though, when all round fisticuffs were the highlight of the game.

Steadmund, too many Tigers fans have jumped ship. It's terrible. One bad decade and off they go... Oh, well. Maybe next year. Always nice to meet fellow Aussies, wherever they are.

Adam - LOL! A lone Kevin Bartlett with a walking frame could do better, I think! I'll never forget that day - I was in Collingwood late that evening and I swear it was like a scene from Day of the Dead once the pubs closed - and in black in white, too! Walking around in Tigers colours was risky, but all the Collywobblers were too blind to chase us. Was funny watching them try.

I must admit to having become a lax supporter. To be honest I was dismayed when South Melbourne hit the dust and things went corporate. Footy's not been the same since! What a codger I've become...

As for me? I'm armchair wannabe sleuth who lives in a prohibition-era backyard brewery (we even have a bronze plaque on the back door from those days: "Temperance Is Ignored Here", and it still is!).

Nice to be here, anyway. This is a pretty darned impressive forum. So much reading to do!

    A very big welcome, Ausgirl!

Maybe we should just call back the entire 1980 premiership team....hey, it would be impossible for them to do any worse!

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    Dr:

Definitely like Dimma, no doubt about it. But if it doesn't work out with him, as I mentioned to a couple of fellow Richmond supporting friends the other day, we should "do an Essendon" and make Matty Richardson our coach. Seems to have done the trick for the Bombers to have a recent club legend at the helm, and it would be impossible not to play well for a man like Richo who gave 110% of his heart and soul to a club that was constantly rubbish.

Mind you, it doesn't always work out that way, having a club legend as coach...won't mention any names....*cough* Brisbane *cough*.

    Cheers,
    Adam.
