Babe Ruth's Lifetime batting average is .342 and that is the 10th highest of all time, shows how hard it is...as Ruth is considered the best to ever play the game... the highest of all time is .367 that record is held by Ty Cobb (He played. around the same time as Ruth, Cobb played from 1905-1928 and Ruth from 1914-1935).. now the highest batting average ever for a single season was Napoleon Lajoie who had .426 back in the year 1901

Batting average is so odd. if you hit .300 you are considered an all-star.. I always joke that it is the only profession in the world where if you fail 7 out of 10 times you are considered amazing .. oh if only everything else in life were like that.

Hitting in baseball is funny, they say it may be the hardest thing to do in all sports, you have to hit a round ball, with a round bat and hit it square .. also, I don't know how true this is but some physics professors a few years back deemed it impossible for normal humans to hit a fastball.. they said that if the ball is traveling over 90 miles per hour from a distance of 60 feet 6 inches (the distance between the pitchers mound and home plate) that it doesnt give the brain enough time to signal to the arms and legs to swing.. yet.. every player can do it....even I could.. when I was younger (not well mind you.. but I could at least make contact with the ball)

sorry didnt mean to go on and on about baseball And how do people there like the Babe Ruth jersey.. do folks know who it is? I wouldnt think you would see to many around your area.. probably is a bit of a conversation piece.. glad you like it.....remember we need to make another wager this comming season

Yeah I just pulled the .485 number from out of thin air lol - what was Babe Ruth's average?

Cricket in its basics is pretty easy to understand but there's a complex layer of rules and regulations underneath, it's much easier if you've been brought up with the game, it's almost like learning a foreign language for somebody new to it.

Everything else is hectic but pretty good otherwise. I haven't forgotten the photo with the Yankees shirt, won't be far away! Hope you're well and talk to you soon.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

.485 batting average would make you the best ever hahah Baseball is really an easy sport to understand the basics, but it does get quite complex just so many rules and situations....but once you do start to understand it .. wow is it a relaxing sport!!!

Cricket seems to have far fewer rules. and some day i'll get it

    how goes everything else??

All you need to know is that international batsmen making a combined team total of less than 100 is baaaaad.... but then again, I can't work out baseball averages either. What the hell does .485 mean, for example?

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    Hey Steady,

    Hope you're going well!

Sad to inform you that you've lost Mitch Clark to Melbourne, and I think Luke Power has gone to play a season with one of the new teams as well.

We've picked up Ivan Maric from Adelaide as well, which is great news. There's been a few trades but they would be the major ones.

But to be honest it's getting into the cricket season now so it'll be all about that for the next few months, with one ear open for any footy news...

Good luck in the world series!

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Well game 2 of the world series is tonight and all I can say is I miss the Lions already!!!!! (sad when you could care less about the two teams playing for the championship eh?) .

So any word on trades or player moves... as you know, there is almost no coverage here in the states.. and I'll admit I have been to lazy to go to the AFL web site

Oh boy winter is almost here... gotta love NY in the winter

so how is everything else going.... don't want this thread getting too quiet now do we?

    G'day Steady,

    Nice work on the foresight/fluke.

Would love to see AC/DC play the half time show (think they may have already done it not so long ago? - Would be happy for them to do it every year anyway!) but unfortunately not sure it will happen, think they are semi-retired these days. Incidentally, it's Brian Johnson's birthday today!

Let's hope both the Lions and the Tigers do well next year, I think both teams are definitely going to improve in 2012.....also keep an eye on trade week that's about to come up Steady, see which players are coming and going at your club.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

wow... can you believe it was the American who picked the 30 point victory !! ( even if I do say so myself...I am an American who knows and loves the game....) and in a way the cup stays with my beloved Lions (hey coach was a Lion!!!!)

As for Meatloaf....I do want to say sorry on behalf of all Americans for that one ... I think next year you should get AC/DC to play the half time... that would bring the house down!!

Alas another season gone.. but Adam, Dr. and all the other fans, lets keep this thread going......And Adam.. we must think of another fun wager for next season... you know the one where Brisbane will be on top of the ladder

cheers to great season and cheers that it wasnt a damn draw!!

    Dr:

Not sure which was the quieter packed stadium: The one after Meatloaf's performance or the one after the drawn Grand Final last year.

Won't be too harsh on him though, the man is still a legend, just a bit past it vocally.

Bring back Aussie bands and singers, since it's an Aussie event.....at least we all got a good chuckle out of Angry Anderson's "Bound For Glory" in the Batmobile!

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Geelong it is! Great effort by them and a great game too, though they ran away with it a bit in the last quarter. Even the average Melbourne weather didn't stop 99,500 people from turning up!

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    Hey Steady,

Yeah tomorrow is the big day.....to be honest i'm getting a bit sick of all the hype, just get it over and done with already! Will be an excellent day, Meatloaf is the headline act at the pre-match entertainment which is great.

As for the game, i'm with you in tipping Geelong, but probably by about 15 points.

As long as it's not another draw like last year!!

    Take care,
    Cheers,
    Adam.
