And then there is the man who perhaps single-handedly started the whole metal phenomenon:

Hi Tom
Most folk have never heard of UKJ... a truly fine band I say.
Currently listening to "Would You Like To Be There" off "Motel California"... awesome!!

Ugly Kid Joe rocks! I'm also a fan of Pretty Boy Floyd, who influenced their name.

Check out Budgie. There's a Best Of around which would be a great start.
Terrorvision. First 3 albums are ace.
"Formaldehyde"
"How to Make Friends and Influence People"
"Regular Urban Survivors"
Ugly Kid Joe. Only made 3 albums and an EP and all are good although their last album "Motel California" is a trifle odd in parts. Cool though.
The Almighty. First 2 albums are OK but from then on they ruled Earth.
I'd go for "Just Add Life" as their best in some ways.
The Cult. "Love", "Electric" and "Sonic Temple" kick bottom but "Beyond Good and Evil" kicks all bottoms in a big way.
Bound to be some clips on YouTube.
Rock on \m/

You got some really good picks there, Dan. Might also toss Cream's Disreali Gears on there.

Some of my favorites have already been posted above. But just off the top of my head I'll try a fresh list. In no particular order:
Led Zeppelin - The Nameless White Album with "Stairway to Heaven" on it.
Hawkwind - Quark, Strangeness, and Charm - A really difficult choice, to pick a single one out of 60 or more albums!
David Bowie - Essential Best of 1969 - 1974
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Be Bop Deluxe- Live! In the Air Age
Iron Butterfly - Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida
King Crimson - The Young Person's Guide to King Crimson
Blue Oyster Cult - Some Enchanted Evening
Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare
I could have easily listed a Top 50 without having more than 2 albums by a single artist on the list. I own roughly 400 vinyl albums, dozens of cassettes, and about 200 CDs. Plus music that I only have as CD rips in my computer. There are 116 GBs of music in my computer. From Classical to Jazz to Rock to Swing & Big Bands to stuff that can't be dropped into a specific genre.

KISS rules! Also, Warrant are amazing. Sarah McLachlan is amazing. As is Silverchair. Everybody should listen to the two most recent albums by Silverchair. Nothing else like them on earth.
Yours truly,
Tom Wescott

Hi Guys
I agree with JTRSickert although I haven't heard either the AC/DC or Def Leppard albums. I have never been into heavy metal but will certainly give the AC/DC album a go soon as I have heard other positive feedback about it.
Cheers for those 2 Autolycus.
Another little gem I've been playing a lot recently is Argus by Wishbone Ash. I hadn't heard any of their stuff before but was well impressed.
Here are 10 lttle gems from yesteryear (is there any other year?) that I play quite a lot.
Caravan - In The Land Of Grey and Pink
Caravan - For Girls That Grow Plump In The Night
Nick Drake - Bryter Later
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Al Stewart - Modern Times
Television - Marquee Moon
The Clash - The Clash
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Chris Rea - Whatever Happened To Benny Santini
Roger Waters - RADIO KAOS
Not all straight rock albums, I confess but a beautiful noise none the less.
My all time 10 favourites for differing reasons including lasting effect and in no order of merit.
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
The Beatles - Revolver
Bruce Springsteen - Darkness On The Edge Of Town
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
The Beatles - The Beatles
Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
The Clash - The Clash
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Velvet Underground and Nico - TVUandN
David Bowie - Station To Station
Thnx
Steve

My choices are the same as several other posters:
The Song Remains The Same - Led Zeppelin
Dark Side of the Moon-Pink Floyd
Sticky Fingers-Rolling Stones
PLUS:
The Wall - Pink Floyd
What a great thread! I was going to do something similar, identifying my favourite all-time pure pop favourites (being very pedantic, I HAVE to categorise my musical tastes into pure pop, quality rock, favourite folk, favourite classical pieces and blues/jazz favourites).
