I don't agree with the gun laws but, in this case, I don't think a law would have stopped this man doing what he did. We have strict gun laws in the UK and yet we have had outrages such as Hungerford and Dunblane. If a person is determined enough, or sick enough, they will commit terrible acts such as this.

My heart goes out to the dead, the injured, their families and all those who witnessed this or were involved in dealing with the aftermath.

The world seems like a very sad and sick place right now. When I was young, I thought I was working to create a better world with social justice, tolerance and equality. I see now just how impossible that is.

This text from one of the victims to his mother particularly saddened me. He did not make it through. My god, the poor woman, the poor guy, the poor frightened people in the club and there is no sense of these attacks being prevented in the future. They call for immediate strong action of which there is no such action forthcoming.

Omar Mateen was an American citizen of Afghan descent, and a Muslim. He worked as a security guard, was licensed to carry a gun everywhere, and bought all of the weapons used in the club attack legally at local gun shops.

His ex-wife is now living in Colorado, having fled him after he changed from being a normal person into a radicalized and violent man.

A witness said the shooting began after a large pick-up truck or SUV rammed through the back wall of the club.

ISIS has claimed credit for the attack.

Up until today Australia had the record for the worlds worst mass shooting.

After it Johnny Howard grew a set and banned automatic weapons and initiated a gun buy back, nothing close ever since.

Yes guns don't kill people, people do, but if you have to reload between each shot at least the targets get a suckers break to either seek cover or overpower the gunman.

Seems pretty simple to me.

Now I have been a keen shooter, but never understood why civilians need automatic or even semi automatic weapons.

On September 11, 2001 I was on a subway car going downtown in Manhattan, when we were stopped within blocks of the World Trade Center. We were informed of the plane crashes into the two towers. The train did not move for about twenty minutes and then moved slowly out towards Brooklyn, where I was working. Opposite me on the bench was a woman who said, "What do you expect - they always target major cities!! I'm glad we're moving out of New York City to Orlando." My reaction was to say to her, "Why do you think they can't target Orlando?!" She didn't answer. She got an extension to my question today - wonder what she is thinking of right now?

Taking place in the week of Stonewall and Gay Pride celebrations all over the world, terrible news. Reports seem to indicate use of a machine assault rifle. All other gun debate aside, multi-discharge-rounds-per-second assault weapons need removed from the market. Sympathies to all concerned.
