Thanks, GM. I knew it was sometime around then.

I know the place, too. Could be. Looks plausible.

1959? Miller's Court was demolished in 1928. Doh!!

    It's Wood's Buildings.

The sinister 'alley' that runs between Whitechapel Rd and Winthrop Street which has been closed off since 2003.

Actually, not good eyes at all, but the differences are quite clearly to be seen. You don't have to look closely at all.

As I only got my copy of Ripperana last week I did wonder if it was an April Fool's joke but it is in the January edition.

Can we give Nick Warren the benefit of the doubt and say it was an April Fool's Day joke?

Since we so rarely get to talk about Ripperana, has anyone heard how Nick's health is doing?

It's not narrow enough, for a start, and the brickwork is indeed very different.
Who is trying to kid whom?

I saw this in Ripperana also and thought straight away that it did not look at all like Miller's Court. I checked my copy of the picture of Miller's Court in my old copy of The Complete Jack the Ripper (Rumbelow) and note that in the above picture, the brickwork curves round into the court, whereas in the picture taken on the morning that the murder was discovered, there is clearly no curve.

    Andy,

1934 sticks in my tiny mind as the date. No way is that piccy the entrance to Miller's Court.

    Cheers,

    Graham

That's not the entrance to Mary Kelly's room on the left of picture. I seem to recall that her doorway had an arch above it, even up to when it was demolished, but that doorway has a flat lintel. And what's with those bollards?
