Doesn't matter how many books are printed..just having your name on the cover of a book is an achievement in itself.

Well,I didn't have enough time to read through the text from the book Chris put on the thread for us,last night...but have done so,this morning.

It is a very interesting read.I shall definitely be buying a copy.

Not having paypal, I called Michael's Bookshop and spoke to a very nice man who took my order over the phone! He informed me he is posting it today, so with the current Royal Mail farago, it should be here in 2009, but worth the wait!
      Regards Mike

          Hi folks
Just a quite note of explanation about the numbers printed.
The bookshop publishing and printing the book is very much a local one man business so initially he only printed 20 copies
The book is on sale in the shop, in the local library and via the website so we had no idea how it would go. As it tuned out the 20 were sold within the first day but he can print more as needed quickly as this is done on the premises
So there should be no question of running out
There was never any intention to keep the numbers artificially low to create a demand for a "rare" item
          Hope this helps
          Chris

Christopher Scott describes this as a "niche offering" and, much like his earlier commendable publication, Will the Real Mary Kelly...?, it is. In fact, it is just the sort of JtR book I now most admire---just enough detail on the WMs to catch the interest of the uninitiated, and then straight into the new stuff.

There is some information here about a couple of names we know and about one that I, at least, was unfamiliar with, all written from a Ramsgate angle in Mr Scott's usual impeccable style. I thank him for helping me to fill in an otherwise cold, blustery, year-end afternoon and I recommend it to all who hang out here. I also wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year.

The Grave took the words right out of my mouth.
                  Thanks Chris!

P.S.: Many niches build a comfy house.

Glad to hear it is available on Amazon, I'll try and look it up. Unfortunately I have only had time to skim through the thread so far, but I liked what I read. One of the best things about living in Kent is the great support for small press and local interest books. Of course I can only comment as a customer looking in, rather than a writer trying to make money, but I love the booklets, photocopied magzines, and small press books that you find in bookshops, tourist offices, museums and the like. And frankly reading yours looks like a nice way to spend a quiet afternoon.

                          Hi Chris

I know that little thoroughfare shown in the book covers. Doesn't it run from Habour Street through to York Street? And If I am not mistaken, the pub on the left is the Horse and Groom.

I went to Chatham House Grammar School (at the top of the High Street) so know the town quite well.

Just for interest, notable alumni of my alma mater include:
                          Ted Heath (Former Prime Minister).
The late great, incomparable, Frank Muir. What a bloke!
Sean Curly, free scoring hero of the GB gold medal winning field hockey team at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
and obviously Me, although as yet I have not been truly appreciated. Shocker!

                            Hi Steve
You are absolutely right - that is the alleyway that runs through past the Horse and Groom
I am working on another book about other murder cases in Ramsgate from about 1850 on so I'll keep you posted
                            Regards

Sounds interesting. Is that the era that interests you, or have you ever considered more modern cases, like the unfortunate shootings at Manston in the (er, I think) 60s? (I believe it was an American Military Policeman, but I could be wrong).

                                Hi Tom
I have heard of that too.

I believe, but could be wrong, that it was a black airman who ran amok in the 1950's. I have have also heard that he got as far as St Peter's but this could be way wide of the mark.

Anyone have any more reliable facts on this particular case?

A guy called Mick Twyman is connected to the Isle Of Thanet Historical Society but I can't find a contact email for him.
