But, unless it has been totally rewritten, the fact remains that it is a really terrible book. I'm glad, though, that I got the one that might attract the lawsuits.

The first edition was taken down temporarily due to a certain person
    claiming some copyright/defamation issues.
Also there was an issue with the cover of the book.

All of this has been rectified, the author taking the opportunity to add
    more pictures and other information.

It is a simple story of two friends, told through the eyes of Steve Powell,
about the years in life that they knew each other, and the events that
    unfolded.

    Hi Premium Caz,

Yes looking at it one way what you say is correct, but like on the 'eyewitness' thread, it is not
always seen like that in reality.

    example;
When I was young my Dad made me a rollerboard .. a forerunner to
modern skateboards. He made it with the wheels from my old roller skates.
Anyway in my mind I remember the huge steep hill in my street that I used to wizz down down so fast ...
Now a few years back I visited that street where I once lived, I could
not believe my eyes how the road only had a very slight incline.
I even stupidly ..for a moment considered the idea, that it was a whole 'new road'.

So just possibly someone who was young and not used to seeing gold pocket watches ..
could be left with the impression that they were 'large'.
Anyway .. just another viewpoint to consider.

By the way Caz .. you seem to know many details about the book that you have not read ..
    maybe you are psychic?

    best wishes always,
    Victoria

Geez, I bought this book once and it is, frankly, laughable. Damned if I'll pay for second edition. Anyway, how can a second edition appear a month after the first edition, unless the first edition was rubbish?

Just a thought after my 'personal comment' ..

Please don't say to me, "then why does he not make it available for free".
He has spent a lot of time and energy on this, he believes in it wholeheartedly.
To see ones work produced in a proper format is how it should be and
must give satisfaction to the author.

This to me shows respect for the person and the work.

Plus it is far nicer to have a real book in ones hand than reading off a screen.
He will not make 'money' from this venture .. and it is not about 'lining someones pocket'.

    FAME OR INFAMY
"The True Story Behind The Jack The Ripper Diary"
    by Steve Powell

    Hello fellow casebookers,
this is just to advise those that may be interested, that due
to popular demand this book is now back in print.

In the new .. 'Revised and Updated 2nd Edition'
The book has more photographs, and a few changes, plus I believe new revelations ...

Also the author is offsetting the costs so to make it more affordable to all,
so as you will see the price has now been reduced.
I honestly believe myself that the author is not at all in this for the monetary aspect.
He just wants his story to be heard by anyone interested in the diary subject.

Now maybe you can correct me here, but I didn't really have Stevie Baby down as the sort to go along with political stuff of this hue. I pictured the two Steves sitting around in the sunshine of the late sixties strumming their guitars and saying things like "Hey man, peace and love, can you spare some bread?" - not swallowing dirty great lumps of right-wing BS from God alone knows what sources.

That's why I could hardly believe my eyes when I read that they had discussed the forged diary of Anne Frank and agreed that she made a boring subject for fakery compared with Jack the Ripper because she was stuck in an attic all the time.

A kinder conclusion would be that they were drugged up to the eyeballs at the time. Or would you prefer it to be put down to yet another false memory and complete fiction?

    Love,

Thank you Caz for your take on things.

Maybe he thought it not that important in setting the record straight,
    as not really relevant.
Maybe he didn't know these were just mindless ramblings ..

The other Steve as far as I am aware .. in the time that I knew him,
which was only when I was with 'SB' .. as he was not a 'personal' friend
of mine, in any way whatsoever....
would not have been 'drugged up to the eyeballs' .. he only drank.
No different to most young people back then, it was only later
that his 'problems' got worse, I believe.. from being told.

Thank goodness someone's trying to divert the discussion on to more sensible topics.

Personally, every time I see the title of this thread, I think of the late Kenneth Williams's immortal line in "Carry on Cleo".
