Thanks for the correction and extra information. Interesting that another 'Mary Ann' is nicknamed Poll or Polly.

I was told years ago at school that "Polly" was short for Mary Ann(e) and that "Molly" should be used if wanting to shorten 'Mary Jane.' I don't know how true that is though.
