Earlier this year I was delighted to receive from a descendant of Joseph Lawende a copy of a group photograph taken at the wedding of his daughter Rose to Isidore Goodman Samuel in 1899. Joseph can be seen on the right at the back, standing next to his wife Annie. The bridesmaid sitting in the centre at the front is Joseph's youngest daughter Ruby. I am most grateful to the owner of the photograph for permission to reproduce it here.

Of course, it's interesting to compare this photo with the one taken 24 years later, which his great-granddaughter Melanie Dolman sent to Adam Wood, and which was published in Ripperologist magazine:
Joseph was 52 when the first photo was taken, and a couple of weeks short of his 76th birthday at the time of the second.

That's a wonderful photo, Chris - I think the word is evocative.
There must have been good money in selling cigarettes in those days - such style!
