The clue to finding the birth of James Henry Kelly [ 1911 census] is through his marriage certificate, which will have his father's name and witnesses who could be family members.
James Henry Kelly married Constance Mary Carruthers in June 1896 in West Derby. 8b 621
He seems a year or two younger than the soldier but that is not important. Birth place seems to fit.

John
Hello Chris. Thanks for posting that.
I suppose I must have a go at subsequent censuses for follow up. Interesting if John is John Henry.
Cheers.

In the 1861 census for Wales there is only one girl of similar name born in Ireland and having a father named John Kelly.
She is listed as Maria Kelly and in that year was 8 years old, so at the time of the Millers Court murder would have been 35 years old.
Her father was listed as a fireman and the family lived in Gelligaer, Glamorgan.

I know that people, especially Chris Scott, have looked at the 1871 and 1881 censuses but if MJK WAS lying about her age (or JB honestly made a mistake either in hearing or in math) and she was a bit older than 25, has anyone checked the 1861 census?Originally posted by curious4 View PostHello Richard,
Yes, she does seem to be the original mystery woman! However, if I were to be right about her lying about her age, perhaps we should cast our nets a little wider?
Best wishes,

Hi Bridewell
Good find. Have you looked at similar Scottish regiments, the Royal Scots Fusiliers for example.

birth record
Hello Colin. Having a devil of a time finding his birth record. (Tried both Henry and James.) Limerick was a no go.
There are three James Kelly's in Tipperary born 1868. But they come up as Dublin North.
Have you located his birth record?
Cheers.

So he's gone from a Tinsmith/Gas Fitter via the army to a Chemist's Porter - doesn't sound like a promotion to me! Nonetheless I'd love to be able to read that attestation properly...
All the best

Colin.
In the Service Record, are you able to read the name in line 2. "in the Parish of"?

So no pressure then, Jon!Originally posted by Wickerman View PostI can't locate a town named Limerick in Tipperary, though the Service Record asks, "in or near the town of......" So if the word is Limerick, that just might be the nearest large city, but Limerick City is in County Limerick, just west of the Tipperary border.
That is a great find Colin, thanks for sharing. Only five more siblings to go
